Dariel Alvarez is warming up

wildcard

Recommended Posts

Looks like he's ready. He had those first two cold months now he's hitting the heck outta the ball. Just looking at his spray chart, it looks like he has some long fly outs that could be HR's in OPACY.

At this point I would rather get a glimpse of what we have in Alvarez than continue to run out what we have.

I am not convinced Alvarez is the answer but I think it makes sense to give him the opportunity to show he can be.

Just my typical over reaction thoughts, post HR Derbys. Swap Parades and Machado in the lineup. Call up Alvarez and play him in LF. See ya Snider and send down Flaherty to buy us some roster time.

Did you not realize that Dariel Alvarez has a .751 OPS? He has two xbh in July? How is he an upgrade? You can't just simply wish upon a star and hope he figures it out against better competition. There's a very good reason he's not with the Orioles and it's not because Snider or Reimold is in his way. I swear to you, they are not the reason Alvarez isn't in Baltimore. He's barely walking. He's not hitting for power. His defense won't keep him in Baltimore and you'll be twice as miserable watching him flounder around.

29 XBH is not hitting for power? His .750 OPS in 10+ pts higher than Reimold's was in AAA. Snider has 14 XBH in 200+ PA's. Snider and Reimold have shown me nothing. Snider can't pull a fastball. I'd rather watch Alvarez OPS .675-.700 the rest of the year than two journeymen/has beens/never weres. At least he has a chance to get better.

Alvarez has taken some time to adjust to AAA pitching. He got at bats there for part of last year and for about two months this year before he hit his hot streak.

I suspect that he will take some time to adjust in the majors also. I see him as a September call up.

Oh yea, Alvarez is a fresh-faced kid, ready to take on the world. Snider is a grizzled old has-been who needs to move on.

Alvarez was born in November 1988.

Snider was born in February 1988.

Snider has a much better chance of improving than Alvarez, imo.

Yeah but what did Snider do in AAA? I bet he was way worse than Alvarez. It's not like he had a minor league OPS of .908 or anything.

Snider has had many chances to establish himself in the majors. Out of his 8 years that he has spent time in the majors, 3 of those years showed promise, The other 5 not so much. That would indicate that his chances of performing well in any year is about 38%. Alvarez has taken a very different path. If he gets a chance it will be his first. As a rookie he will have to prove himself. He probably gets a chance in September and again in ST next year. The outcome is unknown. However I would hope he has a better than 38% chance of succeeding. Time will tell.

Well, you obviously like him much more than I do. I'd put his chances far lower than 38 percent.
