Stats lie all the time. That is why you need a large sample size.

Well his BA in high leverage situations this year, SSS or not, do not lie. They show he hasn't been good at all in those situations. He could easily turn it around but so far he hasn't been good in those situations.

I would say the stats on his season as a whole are misleading though. He's walking more, striking out way less, and hitting for more power than he did last season. But his offense as a whole looks very similar to last year because his BABIP is way down and is the lowest number of his career by far. So he could definitely be in store for a monster 2nd half with a little more luck.

What are considered high leverage situations?

What it does is takes a small sample of half a season and reduces it to the toughest at bats. You know against match up relievers. And make the sample so small that it seems SO bad.
