In 2008, at the age of 21, a year before breaking his leg in April, 2009, Pope put up a .685 OPS at Delmarva with 21 walks and 139 strikeouts in 383 AB's. He had tools for sure but forecasting greatness for Pope and blaming his leg for not reaching that greatness is a pretty far reach.

Sure. Understood. HE had been a football player.

today will be an idea day to stay home and watch the game on the ole telly.

DC is not a town to even try and drive in today.

To be honest with you, living in DC, I actually think today would be the best day for folks if they want to come down, as the impact of the papal visit should be the lowest today. The only pope-related closures today are in far NW DC (near the cathedral), so on the other side of the city from the ballpark.

Tomorrow the National Mall will be completely slammed for the parade and other events, and on Thursday there will be significant closures near the Capitol (both of which, if you're familiar, are relatively close to the stadium).

To be clear, that's not to say any day will be good or easy. However, if people are looking to come down for a game, I would recommend today. Metro will probably be pretty unpleasant as well, but it beats driving to the stadium.

Good luck to those that try to make it from out of town; I'm going to be there, but just coming from central DC.

I thought I had read where they were closing parts of Mass ave and some other major roads today, too!

You're correct in that they're closing Mass Ave, but it is only in the vicinity of the cathedral today.

Complete list, in a pretty reader unfriendly format, at the link below.

Thanks for the listing.

I still think it will be a major nightmare to try and move around any parts of the city by road.

Now these are some important facts about the Pope. Looks like Davis and Cruz are blessed. Did you know baseball is mentioned in the Bible? In the big inning, Eve stole first, Adam stole second, and later, the prodigal son ran for home.

Since Pope Francis’ papacy began in March 2013, there have been 7,097 major league games played heading into Monday, according to baseball historian Bill Arnold of Sports Features Group.

During Francis' papacy, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is the majors’ home run leader with 122. Former Oriole and current Seattle Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz is second with 109.

Davis and Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers are tied for the most RBIs with 319. Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Nationals’ Max Scherzer are tied for the most wins, at 51.

The Orioles are 254-219 during Francis’ time as pope, owning a .537 winning percentage.

Which team has the most major league wins?

Well, the St. Louis Cardinals, of course, according to Arnold. St. Louis has won 280 games since March 2013.

The National Cathedral is Episcopalian. They are closing Mass Ave because the Vatican Embassy is at 34th and Mass NW.

The Pope will visit the Basilica on Wednesday. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is located by Catholic University in Northeast DC

Thanks for the clarification - just meant the neighborhood in the vicinity of the cathedral.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says it could be “apope-calyptic,” and commuters traveling within the boundaries of the papal visit — which pretty much covers downtown, and parts of upper NW and NE in the District– might be better off leaving their cars home, taking transit, or even walking.

We're supposed to go to game with another couple who are Nats fans tomorrow night. His dad went tonight and said Metro ride was 2 hours and eventually he got off and walked. Seriously thinking about bailing. Would be different if we were in a pennant race.

They had problems with the third rail yesterday. Reading some of the tweets ,it seems most people stayed home and the lots are not that bad yet.

Here is additional detail on Metro parking capacity by station, as of 10:30 a.m. #wmata #PopeInDC

The news was begging workers that could work from home, to please stay home and telecommute for a couple of days.
