Showalter Protecting Machado May Have Saved Tonight's Game

This is the antithesis of the "This one's on Buck" sentiment.

Officially, Darren O'Day was credited with saving tonight's game.

However, when Manny Machado struck out after not being granted time out by the home plate umpire in the top of the 5th inning, he had some choice words for the man in blue, and it looked like he very well could be run from the game.

Enter Buck Showalter, who sprinted out of the Orioles' dugout as fast as he could, and got in between Machado and the umpire.

Manny walked back to the dugout, and in his next plate appearance 2 innings later, he hit what proved to be the game-winning, 2-run home run.

In a bit of irony later in the game, that same umpire that Machado was about to tell to go jump in a lake, threw Jonathan Papelbon out of the game for throwing the ball at ....... Manny Machdo
