vs. YANKEES, 5/05

Only been able to watch since the 6th, but boy did Gausman look good in what little I saw. Very, very encouraging with Tillman also getting things together.

We have a tendency to fire on no more than 2 out of 3 cylinders (and often just one): at any given instant, we're either good at pitching, good at hitting, or good at fielding. Pick one to one and a half of these. The remaining will misfire dramatically. And then they'll swap.

Can't win a division if you can't put it all together for the duration of a game. I have a sinking feeling that we're going to hand this one to the Yankees somehow. We'll lose 1-0. Book it.

Not only that, but sometimes the opposing pitcher is completely irrelevant. Our lineup has the tendency to go into these LONG, team-wide, extreme droughts all of the sudden for a good several games in a row. Doesn't matter if they're pitching Clayton Kershaw or Joe Saunders.

It's almost creepy how universal it is across the entire starting 9. It's like they all collude together in the club-house to go into a dry spell. Or they all drink the same kool-aid and sometimes the kool-aid man gets sick and doesn't show up at BP.....

Good pitchers do that.
