I wonder if Ubaldo is being prepared for a new role as a long reliever.

He may be, but I don't think that last night's decision by Showalter had anything to do with it.

Last night, Jimenez pitched long relief out of the bullpen because it was all hands on deck due to Kevin Gausman's ejection from the game with no outs in the 2nd inning.

I like Ubaldo in this spot. He battled Scherzer last year in DC. It was the start of his run. The NL is garbage.

Yep they sure are garbage when they've won more WS games

Stupid me I didn't finish my thoughts. In the last ten years.

Despite the NL's good performance in the World Series the last 10 years, the AL overall has been the stronger league for a long time now, as interleague play consistently shows.  I'm not calling the NL "garbage," though.  There are some good teams and good players there.    The Nats are certainly a good team with several very good players.

When Jimenez twirled the gem against the Reds, he was pitching on 6 days' rest.

Today, he was pitching on the customary 4 days' rest.

I wonder if he historically (or at least in his 2 most recent seasons) pitches better on extra rest ???

Just wondering aloud. I'll look it up.

Last year, Jimenez did pitch considerably better in the 12 starts in which he was on 5 or more days' rest than he did in the 13 starts in which he was on the customary 4 days' rest.

I'm not sure if that helps the Orioles in terms of trying to finagle getting him extra rest between some of his starts here and there, but it's at least mildly interesting to me.

Again, Jimenez' gem last night (prior to the 8th inning) was pitched with extra rest ...... in addition to having 5 days' rest prior to last night's game, he also only threw 3 innings (55 pitches) in his previous outing.

Should Jimenez get extra rest for all (or almost all) of his outings from here on out ??? If Showalter can find a way to do that without causing too much travail with the rest of the pitchers in the rotation, I would love to see it.

Jimenez is going on 7 days' rest tonight.

His last outing was excellent, and he was on extra rest in the game, also.

Let's go, Ubaldo.

I really hope tonight's poor performance is the straw that broke the Ubaldo's back.  Two home runs, accounting for 4 RBI's from a guy who was 0 for 30. Please get rid of this guy.  We have seen enough.

Move him to the pen as a long man or release him outright.  Asher gives us a better chance to win every fifth day.
