I still say Friday nights should be moved to 730. Always a late arriving crowd on Friday's, it is still a work day. People headed to downtown and more people deciding last minute to go to a game.

. . .

A lot can happen in the top of the first. Especially with Ubaldo pitching, but true of our other starters as well.

Crappy attendance. Weekend and a really good team and a giveaway.Orioles don't draw unless  they get other teams fans like Cubs,Cardinals, Yankees or Red Sox.They dont draw during the week school in or out.Sad to say Baltimore is a football town .Orioles promotion department is not innovative.

I agree with you about the promotions department, but you shouldn't need a promotions department for a weekend series in July. There are structural issues at work. Ben McDonald told a great story today about taking family vacations to the Astrodome when he was growing up. I suspect these days few people are driving from York or Norfolk to spend four days in B'more for their vacation. Granted there are probably like 10 people on the OH ?..... but it ain't moving the needle on attendance.

The only  reasons we weren't "downsized" are PA's lawyers and his sturberness/sense of civic duty.

There's no mystery here: the team has had a 25-41 record over the last 2.5 months.    Fans don't want to watch losing baseball.

In most cases. Phillies were number 1 in attendance for a few years when they were winning. Now they are 20th. Some teams draw even when losing . Jays and Tigers are doing decent. Jays actually are near the top. Then you have the Indians who were in the World Series and are still 26th in attendance. The Rays who will never draw in the Trop. Dead last in attendance. Drew 16,000 yesterday on a Sunday.

I don't know exactly what the Jays have been doing, but their attendance has skyrocketed since 2010, when they drew only 1.495 mm.   Attendance improved every year but one during 2011-17, and was 3.392 mm last year.   And that includes some down years.

Some theories. Toronto is estimated to be the fourth largest city in North America, behind only Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles. The games are telecast coast to coast. Only game in town since the Expos left. No regional franchises like in the US. Baseball is popular again. Took them awhile after the strike but they want another franchise soon.
