Other than Stroman the Jays are throwing out some high era pitchers. Of course, have zero confidence in Tillman on Sunday. Could be anothe slugfest like it was today with Ubaldo and Miranda.

Thursday: Jeremy Hellickson vs. Marco Estrada
Friday: Kevin Gausman vs. Joe Biagini
Saturday: Wade Miley vs. Marcus Stroman
Sunday: Chris Tillman vs. Brett Anderson

Sunday's game could last 11 hours.

If the O's play this right it's completely plausible that they could be playing on Monday to leap the Yankees in the standings, which is pretty unbelievable.

Hopefully they get some nice enthusiastic crowds this weekend to fire them up and avoid the trap series doldrums.

Are we "hot" now?  Davis, Beck, Trumbo - or are six out of nine hot?  Just axin'....9_9

Ill take 6 of 9 as hot as they are now anytime.  Davis has looked better too. Well not yesterday.  And if Trumbo stays cold, Pedro will get some looks.  Its like this...if the O's are gonna make something out of this season, then they will stay focused on the Blue Jays by taking care of business one game at a time.  There should not be any such thing as a trap series in Sept when you are trying to grab a playoff spot.

One game at a time....

...and TBF, Trumbo and Davis got hits and scored with Davis rumbling around on Trey's double.  Beck's hit late was a beauty also.  I may be too "webrickian" here (j/k Rick - really!)  I do hope webrick got just an iota of glee from yesterday's win though!

Davis is hitting .310 since August 12.

Good answer "two-fisted, beer -guzzling" Steve*!  Are you going to the Yanks series?  I'd love to buy you two craft beers if so (I'll be there 9/6 and 7).

*NB - reference is to an OH night when Roy was hawking his book (which I bought) and you were carrying two beers (wearing a decades old O's cap) and I was amazed!  :D

I am generally more optimistic than most here and I push back on the negative guys...webbrick among them.  But as I have noted before, fans come in many shapes and sizes.  Here at home my wife is a Yankee fan as she is from NY and my 4 kids are all Orioles fans because well, they are smart.  But one of them is a true believer and would have sat through the worst games in Oriole history Texas Massacre, mothers day massacre and been like:  This is the inning right here...

My youngest on the other hand was petrified the other day that the Orioles would blow the 16-3 game in Boston.

I found during the long dark years that it was always more even keel to expect the best and be disappointed if I was wrong than to always assume the worst and be wrong a bunch.  I just cannot ever enjoy it that way.  But to each their own.

Besides, when something bad happens and you say I told you so to someone they want to hit you upside the head.  When you tell them I told you so when something good happens, they tend to see you more favorably.

But I do know this...DD is not terrible.  Buck Showalter is a quirky guy but somehow keeps us in the hunt year after year.  And I know that if not for the 2nd WC spot we would be here today fretting about the 7.5 games we need to make up in 30 games.  Yea...Im still holding out hope there too!

It's a great day to be an Oriole fan and let's beat Toronto today.

    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
    • For Mountcastle …Maybe Chase Petty and Tristan Smith?
    • I’m guessing they ask for Mayo or Basallo of Kjerstad. For me …I’d give them Kjerstad since he’s defensively challenged IMO. Maybe Kjerstad, McDermott, Beavers, and O’Ferrall?
    • 192 wins in two seasons is a pretty strong argument to stay the course.  That said, I wonder if the young players wouldn't be better off long-term if the scientific matchups took a back seat to the raw talent a little more than we've seen.  Overthinking something can be a thing you know.
