The Orioles just re-signed him to a Minor League contract.

He is young, and he is cheap.

He has played SS, 2B, and a little bit of 3B.

According to Steve Melewski, Sardinas will be starting at 2B tonight against the Tigers.

Hasn't had a season above 78 OPS+ in 4 "seasons" in the majors.

Minor league slashline: .288/.330/.359 .690 OPS in 9 seasons.

So...no power. All defense.

Looks like a Cesar Izturis type.

So don't expect the offense to get any better any time soon. But I guess the defense is there.

Woof.

I am a little surprised at the promotion.   He has not been hitting well at Norfolk (592 OPS)  and has committed 3 errors in 8 games.

I think you can draw some conclusions from the fact that several teams have been willing to give Sardinas fairly extended call-ups over the last few years, whereas Corban Joseph had a cup of coffee in the majors (7 PA) in 2013.    Looking at their MiL numbers, as well as Sardinas’ rather pathetic offensive numbers in the majors, I think you have to conclude that Sardinas is considered to be a much, much better defender than Joseph, regardless of whether he’s made a few errors this month.   That said, I really don’t see that Sardinas is any great defender, based on his numbers.

Give me the hot guy every time.  Every player has hot and cold times.   Ride that hot streak.   Corban - hot.   Sardinas - cold.
