Why does Jim Hunter think Kevin Gausmann giving up 9 hits in 6 innings is "outstanding"?

I can't stand Hunter or this post-game show. He keeps referring to Gausmann's "outstanding" start - he's used that word at least 3 times.

Facing one of the worst hitting teams in the majors, Gausmann pitched 6 innings and gave up 9 hits. Thankfully there were zero walks. That's a 1.5 WHIP.

He only gave up 2 runs but that's still a 3 ERA. Had the bullpen not bailed him out of a 1st and 3rd with no outs, his ERA for this game would have been at least 4.50.

Can someone tell me what is outstanding about a guy who was our opening day starter last year giving up 9 hits in 40 degree temps to a team with no bats in 6 innings? In my opinion, Gausmann gave us a quality start that could have been much worse. It was far from outstanding.

Because when you’re talking about the Orioles starting pitchers over the last few years, 2 runs in 6 innings is what’s considered “outstanding.”     There’s a low bar here.

And it’s Jim Hunter... the guy who will remark upon a 3-game hitting streak.

But to be fair, he does usually call it a "modest" 3 game hitting streak.

(He broke the "modest" last night for a 2 game hitting streak.
