The Orioles not getting the 2019 All Star game is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. Camden Yards is one of the nicest stadiums in baseball. I absolutely cannot believe that Camden Yards has only had one all star game.

There are 30 teams in MLB.    One all star game every 30 years is par for the course.   There hasn’t been one at Dodger Stadium in 38 years (but they’ll have it in 2020, 40 years after the last one).   So far as I’m concerned, we can’t start whining about this until 2023.

Yeah, but Cito still sucks.

Manfred is big on talking up expansion.

The Mariners are not happy with the idea of teams in Vancouver or Portland.

The Braves can't  be happy about a team in Charlotte.

The Braves, Reds and Cardinals all will have something to say about a team in Nashville.

TV rights are at issue for all and attendance in some of those markets.

I would think that some owners would want to know where Manfred is going to come up with 48 more major league pitchers for 4 more teams.

The Angels may be a little upset with Manfred for goes after Mike Trout.

Just to elaborate on this, since Baltimore last hosted the all star game, only three teams have hosted twice (or are scheduled to do so):

Pittsburgh: Three Rivers in 1994 and PNC in 2006.

Cleveland: Jacobs Field in 1997 and scheduled in 2019.

Atlanta: Turner Field in 2000 and SunTrust Stadium scheduled in 2021.

The following teams haven’t hosted an all star game since before 1993:

Tampa (never hosted; only became a team in 1998), Toronto (last hosted 1991), Oakland (never hosted since moving to Oakland in 1968), Chicago Cubs (last hosted 1990).

As of June 16th, MLB attendance was off by 6.5% from 2017.  The tables and charts below are from a Forbes article on MLB's attendance issues with causes for attendance drops and recommendations to fix it.

The article, from july 25th, is a good read and can be found here:  https://www.forbes.com/sites/kpmg/2018/07/25/still-in-their-infancy-ai-algorithms-need-parenting/#59762a7e2fca

Those teams just need to chill out.  A team can move 30 miles away, sign an agreement, wait until they make the playoffs and just back out of the agreement.  What’s the big deal?

Not what happened, but fantasize away.    The MASN deal called for the TV rights fees to be renegotiated every five years.    It so happens that the first period for renegotiation was 2012-16.    The negotiations happened before the 2012 season was played and the parties did not reach agreement, so they took the dispute to arbitration just as their agreement provided.   So, it had nothing to do with the Nats breaking the agreement and the timing had nothing to do with the Nats being in the playoffs.

    • At cost considerations there is 2 players i'd rather have listed in that article over Crochet, Helsley leading that. Also Mountcastle to the Reds for a SP makes a lot of sense also.
    • Guilty. I'm working to be intentional to enjoy the day to day of a lot of exciting careers beginning, and not miss the moment as during say Peyton Manning's career in a different chapter of life when assured 14-2 or 13-3 seasons were four months of boredom while you waited to see what the playoff stumble would be this time.    SIGBOT's stuff works in the regular season same as Billy Beane's didn't in the playoffs. I don't follow Over/Unders, but would guess the 2025 Orioles are 1st or 2nd in the AL on early action.    My informal AL power rankings end of 2024: 1. A nonexistent Orioles team with a functional Adley Rutschman 2. Yankees with Soto 3. Tie between actual Orioles with broken Adley and end stage Astros that lost several series to hot Central teams 4. Yankees without Soto 5. Central I'm cheating Cleveland there for a joke, and hope they win, which they are plenty capable of doing.    It is an interesting matchup for the stuff the two teams are good at being very different.
    • I don't see the O's trading Mullins without getting a replacement for him from somewhere.  It's doubtful we have anyone in the minors yet ready to step in for him.  Maybe the same for Urias since he's the perfect backup infielder.  I think Mateo and Mountcastle are more likely to be traded.
    • I was clearly talking about the AL...
    • You mean like how the Os dealt guys like Hays, Stowers and Norby?  Yea, guys who are good depth but guys we can stand to trade are guys I want to trade….and obviously Elias feels similarly. These guys carry value. The level of value depends on the player and you can debate the value of return but yes, you absolutely should trade out of depth and trade guys that perhaps that don’t match your team philosophies.  That’s what teams do.
    • Who knows.  Lots of possibilities. There could be another trade like the Hays trade.  Or maybe you can get a ML ready arm that profiles as a high end reliever. I don’t think that you will get a proven lock down guy but that doesn’t mean you can’t get someone that will end up a big contributor.
