I know this is not supported by this baseball board, but the NFL has long overtaken MLB as more followed sport.

I'm fairly sure we're not all completely delusional here.  American football passed baseball in popularity in the US about the time I was in kindergarten, if not earlier.  This is not in dispute.

I mentioned the something about this subject the other day, when we was dicussing the downward spiral that MLB is in, and some of the posters stuck to their guns, that Baseball is the only sport.

They are welcome to that belief, but I dont share it.

i doubt a majority of the fans are into gambling on their teams.

but, heck, Ive been wrong before.

According to a comprehensive analysis of one article I just found on Google, about $2B was legally bet on football in Nevada in 2017.  I'd guess that illegal betting on football, or legal betting in other locations, was at least that high or higher.  So maybe $5B? a year gambled on football.  What is that, about 33% of what the NFL brings in, in total revenues, in a year?  $5B is the equivalent of a million people each betting $5,000 on the NFL a year.  Or 100,000,000 people each betting $50.  That's a fair amount of gambling.

It's a completely different subject to discuss your favorite sport, or the favorite sport of average Americans.  The NFL is about 8th on my list of sports to watch, and as I mentioned the other day I'd just as soon cut the grass, but I know it's at the top of the list for at least a plurality of Americans.

I dont see Oriole fans (or anything other baseball team) walking around in tennis shoes blazen with their team's name and colors.

But, you can see that here with the Ravens and Redskins.
