I have, just being more aggressive early in the count than in Bowie, but remember a .740 in the Eastern League is just as good as a .880 OPS in the International League given their respective run environments this year. So I'm not sure he's been notably better.

One thing Bannon needs to improve is that he has a tendency of turning easy plays into difficult plays in the field.

He's really comfortable throwing on the run, it's an ability that generally helps him, he's good at it. But sometimes he makes running throws when he has plenty of time to set his feet. And while he is a good thrower on the run, no one is perfect when their body is moving a different direction than the target. It leads to some slightly errant throws.

So far he has 4 errors through...What, 10 games there?

Luke - does the fact that Bannon is facing AAA pitching (ostensibly better than AA) affect your analysis?

I mean the higher level you do it at, the greater chance that the hit tool plays in the majors, but it doesn’t change the profile. If he keeps it up it decreases risk.

He went 3 for 5 tonight.  Now slashing 0.358/0.368/0.604 in 13 games AAA.  Good for him that he is seizing the opportunity and forcing his way into the Orioles' plans.

I was just writing about Bannon in Tony’s thread on the main board about who might be added to or dropped from the OH top 30.    He had Bannon listed as a possible player to be dropped.     That post was written just before Bannon got promoted.   I think Bannon has shown he belongs on the list.    Hopefully he keeps raking over the final week of the season.

Bannon was top 20 for me pretty easily before his promotion, but to be fair, when I talk to scouts, Bannon is really the only guy where my thoughts vary significantly from other evaluators, although one changed his opinion a little after he saw Bannon’s Eastern League all-star game batting practice and conceded that he does in fact have 50 raw power (something we’d previously disagreed about).

Does his position change his ranking? Does it matter if he plays 2B or 3B?

2B is a less premium position, but his bat would definitely project better there. Not like we have a ton of upper level middle infield prospects.

I think the only chance of him being a 50 is at 2B. I think he could definitely be a 45 at 2B and maybe at 3B. He’s better at 2B IMO and the bat plays better there.

 I also think it’d be easy for him to pick up LF/RF and be a non-SS super utility guy. Kind of like Cincinnati is using Josh VanMeter now. Bannon has a better glove, but probably less bat.

Good call on Van Meter for the Rule 5. 

I see Bannon has adopted Mountcastle’s way of thinking.  Why walk when you can hit the ball out of the ballpark?  That’s a not a joke nor a knock.

This hot stretch at the end of the season might be keeping him in the OH top 30.
