I think Trumbo would make a great coach

Obviously of the hitting variety. Student of the game, hitting nerd, great demeanor, intelligent guy, excellent ML track record of hitting. I recall Mancini saying Trumbo helped him out of a funk once just by asking him a question that made him reconsider his approach.

Even if Mark makes it back this year, which I hope he does, there's only a slim chance he gets a job next year. No idea if coaching is something he wants to do but I think he'd be a very good hitting coach at some point. And with the age coaches trending younger, why not sooner than later? Would love to see him stay in the organization, especially since he's been exonerated of any pie crimes and stopped Davis from doing something extremely regrettable.

This is a fallacy about hitting coaches that annoys me whenever I see it. Sorry, it really just doesn't factor in.

So is all the stuff you said. We have no idea whether Trumbo would be a good coach. It is true that he can't field so he has probably spent the majority of his mental energy as a player thinking about hitting.

If he wants a minor league job, fine, but Don Long looks like a keeper to me.

Oh I like Don. I was thinking more minor league coach or assistant hitting coach, although Howie seems well liked. Maybe he starts in another organization.

Or maybe he has no interest!

His arthritis might keep him from being able to spend that much time on his feet every day.

Terry Crowley had a career OBP 95 points higher than his batting average and most of us couldn't wait to be rid of him as a hitting coach

The OBP thing is funny to me because there are plenty of good hitting coaches who didn't hit period, much less OBP. Same goes for pitching coaches and managers and base coaches.

He could become a researcher on workplace harassment.

His first study would be called "No pie for me"

Yeah, I don't think he was even a good teammate.  It'd be hard to imagine him being a motivator.

The essence of teaching is knowing how to accomplish the goal, and accurately and effectively conveying how to accomplish that goal.

Teaching is a completely different skill set then playing, which is a comment I use Word for Word in my music teaching. There’s actually very little overlap between the two as well. If Trumbo can do those two things, Sure, give him a try.
