If only Elias hadn't traded the 11th best player in baseball (Bundy) for next to nothing

So you think they're prepping to sell the team and they don't care if it leaves Baltimore. That's what I'm picking up from you here, though my @Can of Corn translator never seems to be well-calibrated.

I think you need to adjust the knobs.

What I said has nothing to do with selling the team.

You can make money from an investment without selling it.

If I had a billion dollar asset I'd expect to pull a nice yearly income from it.

Yeah I think it needs a thorough tune-up, because I'm still not sure what you're getting at in the context of our back and forth?

Were you agreeing with me?

I don't think they sock away O'Day's $10 million in a rainy-day fund,  but I also don't believe that they're slashing salary as a nefarious plot to line their own pockets. I have just as much proof as you do to back up my opinion, which is really nothing. It's speculation. I do think it's naive to think that ownership shouldn't value lower salary commitments during a full gut and rebuild. I also don't think Gausman himself was ever going to bring back a top 5 organizational prospect from any team. He wasn't that kind of trade chip.

I think you're frustration is valid, but I just have a different perspective on it. I'm pretty pleased with the ownership hand off.

Well, your expectations for what you think ownership should be are pretty low imo.  You are fine with them thinking greed first. I’m not.

Im all for them making as much money as possible but they still have to do what’s best for the franchise..the Angelos brothers haven’t shown they are that.

I  think that ownership has every right to pull as much profit as they want from their team.

Doesn't mean I like it as a fan but it isn't "nefarious".

I  think that money saved that wasn't immediately spent by the team will ever be spent.

Look, I've been pretty courteous to you and even agree with some of the sentiment, but honestly you're being a jerk about this.. go out words in somebody else's mouth. I'm done with this discussion.

Lol..being a jerk? I think you are misreading my tone and being a little sensitive here.

Im repeating what you are saying.  You are very clearly saying it’s ok that they valued money over talent.  That isn’t how it should be, especially when you have a talented player who could fetch you more.

These are your words, not mine.

End of the day, you are ok with it and must feel that there is some rainy day fund they are saving all of this saved money.  I don’t see how people can think that, especially with this family/ownership group.

I would rather see them maximize deals with their best assets.  I think that’s how a pro sports franchise should be run.

Really?  That's an interesting take.

I didn't think for a second that the O's would have five starters better than Bundy in 2020.

I thought there was a solid chance they'd move him to the bullpen. Some of you remember a pitcher much better than the one I do. Sure, he had some fine stretches. But he was a mediocre, injury-prone pitcher for us really. Batters are hitting .195 this year against him. In his career they're at .253. Good luck keeping it up Dylan! But hey, good for him, I'm not rooting against him or anything. But it's 8 starts. He wasn't going to turn it around here, IMO.

Bundy is also extremely lucky this year according to advanced stats.

His HR/FB and BABIP are by far the lowest of his career.  Despite batters making more hard contact and hitting a higher percentage of line drives than in any year of his career.  And his GB/FB ratio is essentially identical to last year.

Better pitching environment  and guys with multiple GG playing behind you certainly helps with some of this.

Not sure why more people aren’t looking at these things before making huge assumptions.

Surely at least a part of this could be that he isn't playing in OPACY anymore right?  Can we get data for how many of those fly balls that he has let up would be HR in Baltimore?

    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
