Boog Powell, 1970, against the White Sox.  12 games, 6 homers, 17 RBI, .405/.577/.946 for a 1.523 OPS.  14 walks!

Cal Ripken, 1991 against the Indians.  13 games, .385/.411/.769 for a 1.180 OPS.  5 homers, 11 RBI.

Miggy, 2005 against the Red Sox, 18 games, .377/.407/.701, 12 doubles.  I don't think that tops Frank but it's still damn good!

I'm thinking there's gotta be someone else.

Luke Scott.

I remember a hilarious blog post about Scott destroying the Tigers.  He got in their heads, at least the fanbase.

Orioles OF Luke Scott is your typical journeyman ballplayer who has searched long and far for playing time. In his two seasons where he’s had at least 215 ABs, he’s hit a combined .256 with twice as many K’s than walks. In his eleven games since 2008, Scott has batted 19-38 (.500) with 10 HRs and 19 RBI. Let that sink in for a moment… an AVERAGE game versus the Tigers is 2-4, with a HR and 2 RBI. His clutch hitting early in this weekend’s series took two solid pitching performances by Verlander and Jackson to eek out a split.

OK, there is a challenge: what is the most dominating season one Orioles hitter has had in a season against another team?

Just to give people a place to start, I had a look at Frank Robinson’s Triple Crown season.   In 1966, in 18 games with the Tigers, Frank hit  .368/.463/.926 with 11 homers and 23 RBI.

Can you top this?

Aaron Judge, 2017, vs the O's.

19 games, 85 PA, 31 runs, 11 HR 24 RBI, .426/.588/ 1.049

Didn't know Aaron Judge was playing for us.  Then again, he misses so much time, it'd be easy to not know that.

I meant, top it with something an Oriole did against another team.  Probably ten guys who played against the Orioles have topped Frank’s numbers I cited.   In addition to Judge, how about Gleyber Torres last year: .394/.467/1.045, 13 HR 20 RBI.

As an aside, I went to see how Mickey Mantle did against the Orioles the year he won the Triple Crown, thinking his numbers were probably pretty unbelievable given how bad the O’s were in that year.   Turns out, he had an OPS of at least 1.100 against every other team in the league, but only .809 against the Orioles.    Mickey Mantle Kryptonite!    He wasn’t that good against us in ‘61 either when he hit 56 homers - only 4 against us.   And Roger Maris was downright bad against us that year.
