“The Sun” sign at OPACY to be taken down?

I can recall a similar feature at the Polo Grounds in New York when the Mets played there.  There was an advertisement for Rheingold beer beyond center field, and the "H" or "E" in "Rheingold" would flash to indicate the scorer's decision.

Anyone remember any other parks where such a custom was observed?

Ebbets Field had a beer sign that had that H or E feature.

I’m at the game tonight.  They still flash H or E for hit or error.

Interesting, I haven't seen them flash H or E in years. Then again I haven't been to a night game in Baltimore in years. I only attend day games and maybe the sun light washes it out.

I wouldn’t have looked if it weren’t for this thread.  I pointed it out to my wife and son and the people in front of us and behind had never seen it before.  I think it’s been a pretty cool tradition since the park opened. I remember my dad pointing it out to me as a 12 y/o in ‘92.

I'm in favor of moving the scoreboard there.  It would also be awesome to have a giant wall with a painting of the Bromo Tower.  Heck since the O's have $600 million to play with, just move the Bromo tower in front of the Hilton.  It would be like a giant middle finger to the Hilton.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
