Also, and I'm going to copy and paste my comments from another post regarding Johnson, but he is going to be an interesting case study in roster management. He's got to go on the 40-man this offseason or be exposed to the Rule 5, he won't be back until 2024, when he'll be 26 years old, and he has a total of 27 innings at A+ which is the highest level he's competed at. The Orioles will have to decide to either put him on the 60-day IL to clear a spot on the active 40, but also pay him MLB money (and start his service time clock), OR they can option him for next season, and then again in the '24 season when he can actually start pitching again and then will hold a final option on him for his age-27 season which is when we can reasonably expect he may be ready for the majors. The second choice of optioning him however will be a black hole on the 40-man roster. It's a complicated risk for sure.

I'm guessing that if Elias thought that Tommy John Surgery bound Seth Johnson was valuable enough to be included in a deadline trade, other GMs will pounce if the O's don't protect him.

@CharmCityHokie You've got a great list of rehabbing pitchers to get excited over! As thin as our MiLB SP depth is, it's like having a new draft heading into (or during) the season.

I did some searching for Young (I'm less familiar with him) and came across this article.  It's a good Meoli article recapping the 'type'.  Pretty much every player you mentioned is in this article.

How scouting, patience and ‘hop’ are helping the Orioles develop pitchers in the low minors – Baltimore Sun.

What a long article! The author wanted to tell us all about pitchers this season 😁

But I liked the way it talks about young and old pitchers.

    • I know. I'm a hand wringer and a whiner when it comes to this team. I sometimes annoy myself with all this baseball nonsense. But really deep down,I'm still the 8 year old who lived and died with every Oriole game. Still. Im that kid. So when this team was really horrible like for most of the second half, it almost made me nauseous just to watch them lose in all kinds of ways. Then all those injuries in a wave. I really felt they weren't going to make the postseason at all. But baseball is a crazy game, and a light switch can be turned on in an instant. Maybe that Santander walk off HR on Thursday threw a switch. Because Friday night, this was a different team. They still strike out a lot, and Burnes was brilliant, but I feel maybe something is moving. Seeing Coluombe come in and strike two batters out, and Webb, not as good, but good enough with a big lead...and to see Coswer and McCann blast two, and Tony again with a HR...It got my juices flowing. Look maybe they wont play well this weekend, maybe they will. And then the dreaded Yankees might break our hearts. But why think that way now.?Urias is coming, then Westburg, then maybe Mounty, and even possible Grayson at the end . If we can somehow put the pieces together and get our mojo back, and have the players contribute, we maybe, just maybe, might have a little ray of hope.I still think this roster is talented when all our pieces are together, and as good as anyone when we are playing well. So, I'm not asking for a miracle. I'm just asking for a chance to see this team with most of the pieces together again, and compete.Maybe it's even a long shot, but I am still that 8 year old living and dying for a chance to see my boys make me proud. And these are my boys.
    • Velocity was 1.5-2mph down across the board. Movement was good, especially the sweeper. The fastballs worry me at that velocity though... not sure he should be immediately high leverage in the way he used to be.
    • Nicely done. Lol. Yes I remember that with Minnesota.
    • Is there any chance of the Orioles catching any of the teams in front of them with large crowds over the weekend?
    • Wells and Cowser are neck and neck in terms of fWAR. Could go either way
    • Joey Ortiz was in the running for the National League ROY for a while, but there’s too many other guys. However, he will almost certainly be a gold glove finalist, and the Brewers are all very happy to have him. I hope Colton wins, but if the Yankees win the division, as seems likely, I think the national love will go back to them
