What is the origin of that stupid whistle we hear every time there’s a strikeout? I would like to go back in time and change that origin story, because I’m sick of hearing that stupid whistle.

The two-strike noise is from Star Wars. It's commonly used as a warning klaxon when the ship is under attack or fighters/shuttles are entering or exiting a cargo bay. That much I know. They use the heck out of it in Star Wars: The Old Republic video game too.

Apparently it is a sponsored thing.   It is a NY area appliance store, and apparently the whistle is sort of a theme song in their commercials.

There was some discussion of it on the Weams board today.
