Thanks everyone. We are in a bad way here. Things are still evolving but the devastation is off the charts. This is worse than the 1916 flood, which was the worst on record. 

Thanks for the support. Many people are suffering. We have the hospital open and functioning in disaster mode. Doing our best in a really bad situation.

I may try to check into OH for a break, now and then. Go O's!

We are all so sorry for everything that has happened down there. How did you make out personally? Was your house affected? How do you feel the response has gone? Are people flocking in there to help? Is it not enough? Too much?

Lived in South Florida on and off my whole life, So most of the storms impact us but Dont hit us. But every once in while one does, so I've seen first hand. Wishing everybody in any affected area the best. The devastation these weather events can cause is mind numbing.

Hoping help gets there soon in every way. Got a first cousin up in Fairview, but can't get in touch with him or his wife. I'm 

hoping it's just the lack of power and cell coverage. I saw him a few weeks back up there.

We played a gig while in Asheville on that trip and I mentioned to the kids, "See that river. It's the French Broad. Do you know 

it's famous for?" They didn't know, and I told them about the flood of 1916. I'd read and seen pictures of it for years, 

but I think the devastation is pretty much in line with or exceeded that flood.

Here I am checking in. We and our condo on the east side of Asheville made it through unscathed. On Tuesday we flew into DC and moved into a hotel in Falls Church. Our son, Eric, ordered us to make that trip and made all the arrangements because we had no internet and limited cell service. We expected to stay a week while electricity is restored and then we learned about the dire water situation. We are moving in with Eric and his family who have been supporting us in every way possible, anticipating needs and things that would help us.

Our daughter, Robyn, and her husband, Ken live about 30 miles west of Asheville , Waynesville, had no damage, never lost power or water. Today they rescued my car from $30 a day hourly parking, threw out everything that was beginning to make the condo stink and tied up  a few ends we left loose when we left Dodge in a hurry.

They are, collectively, the loving, supportive family everyone should want and have .

It's so heartening to see how the folks of the state and in some cases like this, folks right there in the middle of it chipping in and being so selfless. My sister sent me this from our 2nd cousin southwest of Asheville in Sylva. He owns a diner named after his mom and dad and have been feeding utility workers and anyone needing a meal since they were able to get up and running.

I live in Edneyville, at the top of the mountain that leads down the mountain to Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, and eventually Lake Lure. 

Almost every mountain road is following a river, stream, or creek. The topography and hydrology of the region is so unique. Our strip of neighbors dealt with my minimal damage while a 1/4 mile down they found a body in a tree bc he lived near a creek. Land slides, falling trees, homes being washed away. You couldn't imagine something like this could happen 

Some areas are just obliterated. There are some uncomfortable truths being discussed and there's also a bunch of disinformation going around too.

Three things a lot of the locals are trying to draw attention to:

1. Locals, volunteers, churches, private citizens/organizations stepped up immediately to lead rescue , recovery, and relief. Lots of neighbors helping neighbors 

2. State and Federal Bureaucracy and Inefficiency interfered with and/or hindered rescue, recovery, and relief during the 1st week

3. Helene death tolls/missing persons aren't being accurately portrayed in mainstream media. 

Lots of really inspiring examples of humanity was the silver lining. So much could be discussed. Long recovery ahead for some of these communities. Lots of local baseball fields were washed away. Would be cool to see MLB or specific teams help out

Very much brought what is left of communities together.   I am near Barnardsville and Dillingham Rd got hit hard.  Probably not as bad as Chimney Rock though, or Swananoa.
