There will be a lot of editing done on the flight home tomorrow, from which I'll be able to post Monday. Although many of you saw Snyder and Bell in tonight's Rising Stars game, I still think some of the stuff I've got might be of interest. Hope so, anyway. I'll start off with a couple that I've had time to get to so far out here, and then will add the others early next week as I get em uploaded. :D

This first is of Bell batting right-handed in the cage (methodically to left, center, right, and then a "homer" that was pulled foul), then a couple of batting cage shots left-handed, then a walk.

This is the hit that some may have missed, as it seemed he had been pulled from the game...only to show up at the plate as the DH. :)

Thanks, real interesting video of Bell. I see a couple of differences in his stance from the two sides, and the bat looks considerably quicker from the LH side -- at least in those few swings.

Snyder's hitting form is a thing of beauty. I think we're going to like what he shows in Baltimore.

And speaking of a great swing... wow does Yonder Alonso ever look like a hitter.

This was taken in the 9th, warming up for a save opportunity. Had to use the iPhone, so quality isn't the greatest...I actually got escorted off the field tho, being in an area I wasn't supposed to be in, without knowing it.

No, really, I didn't know...:)

Yeah you can see him really concentrating on not rocking from the RH side like I was talking about, but a batting practice stance and a game stance are two different animals too. See how he does that excited little back and forth in between swings? He does that throughout his AB from the right side, which makes his timing hit or miss and saps his power over there.

When he's batting left, the top arm is held horizontal, but he seems to drop his elbow somewhat from the right side. I'm not sure that the hands are held in the same position from both sides, either.

Whatever the cause, his hands are quicker to the ball from the left side, and he's generating perceptibly better bat speed. That's just from a few swings, though. I'd really like to see more of him.

The truth is, the stance and swing doesn't look very comfortable from either side. But whatever works...

It's a very upright stance, but it works for him at least from the LH side. You see him swing from there and you'll just say, THAT is a major leaguer, but when you see him swing from the RH side, you'll say, THAT is an adult league softball player. It's really just that much contrast though. Don't get me wrong, it's not a ton of work he needs to do from the RH side to be at least passable, but he's something really special from the other side, so it's just kind of frustrating.

11 AB's don't mean a hill of beans in the whole scheme of things but it sure is interesting to see that he's got 6 hits, 2 walks, and only 1 K so far in those 11 AB's. That includes 2 doubles. He sure hasn't been helpless so far batting RH in the AFL. So maybe he's at least made some improvement or it could be nothing. I could have sworn he was in more of a crouch when I saw video of him ealier in the season from the left side. It looked like he temendous leverage and used his legs a lot.

Also depends on who those left handers are he's hitting off of, some of those guys are like #3 starters in college. Spring Training will tell us more.

      I was listening to a Fox Sports Radio broadcast (sorry, can't remember who it was). They put the teams into tiers. The O's were in the top tier along with the Yankees, Dodgers and Phillies. I don't know how long it's been that during the season, someone would have called us top tier. And to think, this is happening with two of our starters out for the year and Bradish and Kremer have spent time on the IL. We are doing this with Hays, Mullins, Urias and Santander starting the season on an extreme slump. We have done this with Mateo starting almost every day (which most people thought would be a horrible thing). We have done this with a bullpen that has been very inconsistent. Imagine if we get some of this stuff fixed and some people back to just playing to their career averages.

      I'm not sure what we are doing with Vieira. I figured the trade was about the prospect and they had to take him and his salary to make it happen. I expected him to be DFA right away and they would try to send him to the minors to work on him.

      Btw, in the 4 game series against the Jays last year (July 31-Aug. 3rd), it is insane that Mountcastle hit for an .846(!) avg with an OPS of 1.932!

      May 2024 This month, two non-prospects were obvious choices for MiL Plsyer and Pitcher of the Month: Player of the Month 28-year old Daniel Johnson led the org in SLG, OPS, HR (tie) and RBI.  He hit .350/.439/.725 with 6 HR and 23 RBI pm In the prospect division, I’m going with 19-year old Leandro Arias, .333/.400/.667 with 3 HR and 13 RBI in 16 games.   Honorable mentions to Ellis Cuevas at .992 OPS, Heston Kjerstad .964 with 14 RBI in 16 games after returning to the minors, and Stiven Acevedo at .953.   Pitcher of the Month In between stinking up the major leagues, 27-year old Jonathan Heasley pitched 16 scoreless innings with an 0.813 WHIP. In the prospect division, 21-year old Edgar Portes pitched to an 0.42 ERA in 20.2 innings, with an 0.919 WHIP and 11.8 K/9.   Honorable mentions: Eccel Correa 0.96 ERA in 18.2 IP, and Trey Gibson with a 1.76 ERA, 1.044 WHIP, and 15.3 K/9 in 15.1 IP.
