WOW! Maryland just got hosed on as bad a replay call as I have ever seen. It just isn't meant to be for this team. Nice effort' date=' but even with that hideous replay call, they just didn't do enough to win tonight.[/quote']

You said it.

Plenty, PLENTY of chances to win this game. They just had to score a TD or two instead of a field goal.

Heck, even w/5 minutes left Terps still only need a TD to stay in it.

Yep, they just left too much in the hands of the football gods....and the football gods just took a piss all over this team.

Yeah, a good 'ol drink a 6 pack of light beer, been holding it for 10 minutes while standing in line, 45 second beer piss.

Game....set.....match.

And that's why Maryland is Maryland. They always choke in big games.

I don't remember the last time the Terps won a big game on Thursday/Sat night on ESPN.

The last blackout evening game of any importance that was televised on ESPN that I can remember was a drubbing that WVU gave us.

El Foldo again....

You know, Maryland came up short, but the future looks real bright with Danny O'Brien under center. Great game despite the ending... Maryland did a good job overall, despite being hosed by a terrible call, and despite still needing a few playmakers on the defensive line.

Agree, DOB looks good and overall it was a solid showing. However, its clear they haven't taken the "next step" or whatever you want to call it that it takes to win big games. Heck, FSUs running back was killing them.

That call near the end of the 4th Qtr didn't mean much. It only cost them 3 pts but the Terps were behind 4 so they had to score a TD on their next possession anyway.

NC State is winnable next week with a strong effort.

They are what they are...a middle of the pack ACC team. And for most of the past decade that's all they've been. They took advantage of poor red-zone play to beat Navy in the opener. After that, all they did was beat all the bad teams on their schedule and lose to all the good teams on their schedule. They'll lose for certain against a good NC St team next week, finish 7-5 and will beat some crappy C-USA team in the Whatever Bowl Game it is they play in DC. Then they'll thump their chests about how they won 8 games and boast about their big plans for 2011, only to come up short again in the big games. Rinse. Repeat.

I will say though, when the Terps aren't busy making their own bad luck, they sure don't get much good fortune either. And I'm speaking mainly about the OL. They have done a terrible job of recruiting at that position in recent years. And yet they seem to have injury after injury to the unit that can least afford to suffer any losses. If I was a decent OL recruit, I'd stay away from MD just because I'd be scared of what misfortune might befall me if I went there.

Yeah, you've got to score TDs. It also seems like the big play is killing us.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time the Terps won one of these vaunted "black out" games?

I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure they wore the black unis the night they beat FSU in 2006. It was a cold and very windy late-Oct evening...I remember that part most of all because I was there. Anyway, the Terps led most of the game but FSU scored late and was down by only 3 late in the 4th. They drove into FG range with less than a minute left, but Jeremy Navarre blocked an FSU FG attempt to seal it for the Terps.

Actually, after some research, they were wearing black two weeks after that FSU game when they beat Miami 14-13 on Nov 11, 2006.

    • Could it be that they allowed the Gnats to reside within 30 minutes of their home. Effectively cutting their market in half?
    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
