What are the chances of signing Parra?

I have spent some of the morning watching Parra's defensive highlights. We probably wont sign a top free agent or three. Why not make an effort to sign this guy? He has an awesome arm.

Decent enough, if he likes it here and we decide he's a fit. But I'm wary of signing a guy who is coming off a career season.

He's young (28), a great defender, has good speed, decent power, and coming off a career year. He also won't have a draft pick attached to his signing because he was traded mid-season. There will be a lot of competition to sign him, and the O's don't get in bidding wars for free agents. I say there is almost zero chance we sign him.

I'd have to think Baltimore's chances of signing him are very good. His offensive improvements in 2015 are almost 100% in line with a 70-point jump in BABIP and Milwaukee was down on his defense since he arrived. I don't think the big production in2015 is going to dramatically raise his price tag in free agency.

Parra OPS in the past three years is 709. That is not a guy the O's should give a 3-5 year contract. He is hot this season. If he can help the team get the the playoffs then fine.

But the O's should not go more than 2 years on a contract for him and that probably will not get a FA coming off a career year.

Depends on the money. He could be a rich man's Lough at worst, and maybe you get lucky and he hits his peak and has a career year. He certainly fills a need for us as a top of the order, high OBP corner OF. If you pay him for his career stats, he could turn out to be a great value. I could see paying him something similar to Atlanta's Markakis contract.

If that's the case -- danger Will Robinson! I completely agree with Frobby, be careful signing career-year guys to multi-year deals, especially if they're THAT far from the norm. Reminds me of Steve Pearce last year; not quite as drastic, but close.

4/40 is way rich for me. Had he been a FA this year he would have gotten maybe five or six million on a one year deal. I don't think his 2015 changes things all that much.

That is only one bad year the last five. The 6 wins looks like a fluke, but overall that is 13+ wins in the last five years. He would be entering his Age 29 season (vs. Markakis Age 31 in his first year). I would certainly rather have Parra than Markakis.

He is a clone of Alejandro De Aza.

For someone who has been a below average player every year until this one, let's not go nuts. 3 years is too much time to give someone who has only put together one good year. I'd prefer to do a 1/11 or 2/20 type deal. But no more. If anyone else wants to go nuts with 3 or 4 years for Parra, then they can have him.
