  1. And if you can get someone to have a career like Markakis, Baines, or Garvey with the first pick of the draft, I'd say you've done a pretty good job. Many 1st picks in the draft don't have careers like those guys.
  2. I would describe depth in terms of the 60's/70's Orioles. Those teams were deep because the farm system was deep. It took Bobby Grich and Don Baylor probably a year longer than it should have to make it to Baltimore because of depth. They groomed their pitchers for longer periods because of depth. We need to be THAT team again. One that builds a DEEP farm system and has that problem. On a side note...I've been re-reading John Eisenberg's book on the O's (From 33rd Street to Camden Yards) for the umpteenth time and ran across this little tidbit. Over 12 years, starting in 1962, the Orioles farm system had a winning percentage of .538. They became accustomed to winning...and I think that shows when you get to the Majors.
  3. I'd say it was the worst trade of the Duquette era.
  4. My 2019 Hit Chart: Helpful Graphs to Show Where I "Hit 'em Where They Ain't" - Cedric Mullins In the Bullpen with the 2019 Orioles - Mike Wright
  5. If signing the second-best guy frees up money for us to acquire talent later in the draft, I'm all for it. I would like Rutschman, but we need as much good talent in the organization as we can get.
  6. I'm not really impressed with Nunez. He's got a lot of holes in his game, but he's more of a placeholder than a "nugget".
  7. Do you get the feeling this team is in deep doo-doo? I'd really hate to see them leave Baltimore.
  8. I think he was a very good defensive catcher, but he did not have a great arm. He did get better at throwing over time, but was never that great at throwing out runners. I think he called a great game and was very good at blocking balls in the dirt.
  9. I guess Chris Hoiles would have never made it playing for Buck!
  10. Super and Rickard don't belong in the same sentence. I like Joey, but he is a fringe player on the worst team in baseball.
  11. So...put the guy on the 10-day IL. The success of this season doesn't depend on Trey Mancini...so let the guy heal.
  12. I hope that Hyde realizes that Givens is a one-inning pitcher.
  13. Yeah...that's not a statement you make in public. That's one you have privately with your teammate.
  14. I hope I regret this post, but starting Rickard against RHP is an instant out...and we have enough of those in the lineup already.
  15. Wonder if we may have offered him a little more money than other teams because we need someone to eat some innings?
  16. Opening Day? He's a "fan favorite"? We're not trying to win? Giving Chris every opportunity before they cut the cord? It's anyone's guess.
  17. Took care of that for you. This thread is off the rails!
  18. Entering this thread very, very late. Davis looked like last year's version yesterday at the plate. I know it's spring training, but I think this guy is toast.
  19. Sorry to hear this. I've always liked Kevin and continue to root for him, even though he's on another team. Hope it's nothing too serious.
  20. And, I don't think that means Rogers won't get a look this season. He's just not more of a prospect than the other 30 guys.
  21. I would be OK with that. I still think that the new regime will try to "fix" Davis. I doubt they will be successful, but it's not going to hurt them to give it one last shot.
