  1. Someone 90% of fans have never heard of.
  2. you guys are so tiresome. I came here to read about the O's getting better and instead all I see is bickering.
  3. This reminds me a bit of the off-season we signed Miggy. I doubt it will happen this year - perhaps something similar next off-season is more likely.
  4. I said similar - so even 75% of the WAR + 35mm.
  5. Correa may make the team better this year, when hey won't win more than 80 games even with him. But the question is does it make them better long term to spend that money on SS when they could potentially (2-3 good options) could have similar quality output for the league minimum and spend those same resources somewhere else down the road. Wouldn't we all rather have Henderson or Westburg or Ortiz producing similar WAR a couple years from now, with $35mm annually in the packet pocket to spend somewhere else? Of course it's no sure thing that anyone comes close to Correa output, but those are your best prospects so that's what you bet on.
  6. RHP Garrett Richards For years, Richards was a popular breakout candidate due to his high spin stuff and heavy fastball. However, after a lengthy struggle to get his arm right with the Los Angeles Angels, finally resulting in UCL reconstruction, the potential just isn’t there anymore. However, in 2021 he landed with the Boston Red Sox and had his best season since 2015, putting up 136 2⁄3 innings of decent backend starter work with a 4.87 ERA and 4.72 FIP. Richards still has those high spin rates, and gets outstanding depth on his curveball and slider. The fastball continues to be that oddest of ducks; the high spin sinking fourseamer. Richards gets a lot of gyro on it, and still tops 94 mph on average with some seam-shifted wake effect that makes the pitch hard to barrel in the air, though he doesn’t miss many bats with it either. Like Pineda, he still has to be regarded as a real injury risk who at best will give the Tigers 20 starts. I’d be curious to see what the Tigers’ coaching staff would do with him, but Richards is a lesser option than Pineda and not a lock to get a major league contract. LHP Tyler Anderson With the Chicago White Sox currently ruling the AL Central with a killer lineup stacked with right-handed hitters, a lefty isn’t really the ideal fit for the rotation. The 30-year-old Anderson came up with the Rockies before brief stints with the Giants, Pirates, and the Mariners, who dealt for him as depth at the 2021 trade deadline. Over the past two seasons he’s managed to post solid numbers for a backend starter, but certainly isn’t going to wow anyone. Anderson features a riding fourseam/cutter combination, with the heater sitting 90-91 mph with some funky hesitation in his leg kick to throw off hitters’ timing. He also has a solid changeup. None of these offerings will wow anyone, but Anderson has the command and the understanding of how to pitch to set hitters up and induce a lot of weak contact. He boasts excellent chase and hard hit rates, and doesn’t walk many. The lack of strikeouts keep him from being a particularly desirable starter in the modern era, but the results are pretty solid. In 2021, he put up a 4.53 ERA and a 4.37 FIP, though his numbers got a little worse coming over to the American League mid-season. While we’re not that keen on another lefty, Anderson is interesting and if the Tigers could tune his stuff a bit further, there is actually potential for solid mid-rotation production here, rather than just an arm who can eat some innings.
  7. Still waiting to hear how the ball is coming out of the hand...
  8. They aren't fun for me either. I happed to like the rule, though 12 year old me would disagree.
  9. I'd be fine with dealing many of our propsecptes outside the top 10. If a package with guys like Bauman, Lowther, Bradish et al could get us a SP3 or so, I'd be down.
  10. We have a free agent thread, but this team now has a deep prospect list and may have more opportunities through trade. Looks like the A's are about to set out on a rebuild, having traded Basset to the Mets. They still have Manaea and Montas in the rotation - would be good to explore what it would take for either.
  11. I know you are talking about Wells, but the rotation is most certainly broke. I'd like to see them give him a shot there.
  12. Right, but I'm wondering if 2022 will count as part of that. Since 2022 will not be a lottery year, I'm hopeful it won't since there is a good chance our record will be bottom 6 this year and put us in the 2023 lottery.
  13. Thought it would be useful to have place to ask Orioles related quuestions about the new CBA. Feel free to move or redirect me as necessary. I'll start: I understand that there are restrictions on how often teams can pick in the draft lottery. I assume that the lottery will begin with the 2023 draft. With the Orioles drafting first this year, do we know if there will be any restrictions on how high the Orioles will be able to pick in 2023?
  14. whether he is or not I think the chaces are higher with this CBA.
  15. Are there any actual U.S. news outlets or national baseball publications that are reporting us being involved with any free agents? Seems very quiet other than this bizarre Correa rumor.
  16. I'm not going to complain at all, but wouldn't we be better off investing those resources in pitching?? I'd like to see how things pan out with Gunner, Westburg and Mayo amongst the others for the infield spots. A small market championship team needs a few minimum salaried all-stars to make it happen.
  17. Not only the best catcher in the org, but the best available including all free agents.
  18. In the comments of this is a note that Heston may have been inured on this play! UGH!!
  19. From The Athletic today: Minor league camps — typically the least pretentious, most accessible version of professional baseball — could be closed to outsiders as they open over the coming week. ESPN first reported that multiple teams were expected to keep fans and opposing scouts out of their spring training complexes at least until the Rule 5 draft is completed or canceled. In further discussions, The Athletic confirmed that a number of teams have decided to close in the last few days, though some have cited the ongoing pandemic as a reason to limit access. The Rule 5 draft though, remains an unmistakable factor for those considering cloak-and-dagger precautions.
  20. Reading the tea leaves and listening to the way both parties are talking, I don't have any hope of an agreement int he near future. I hope I"m wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if this costs half the season or more.
  21. When are all the minor league teams reporting to spring training, and when do spring games start? Hopefully there will be more coverage of the minor league spring games with the MLB spring games in limbo.
  22. What I hadn't understood previously is that the MLB offer which is now $20mm will be distributed to 30 players. The players offer of $115mm or whatever it is is supposed to be divided by 150 players. So there are 2 levers to pull on. They should meet somewhere like 100 players to split and 60mm or something like that.
  23. Who knows if Rule V will still be part of the next CBA in the same format. And even if so when it takes place. Assume some of these players will already be in camp with their current team.s
