I Think it’s the GMs job to accurately access your talent vs. the league and he missed just a bit. That’s why I gave him the B+. Had he: 1. Pulled off a trade 2. signed a solid FA we’d likely have made the playoffs. In that scenario it’s an obvious A and likely an A+. Not holding it against him…..well maybe a little I’m pretty satisfied with where we are and even more so with the direction the team is heading, so I’m not going to complain too much.

Your first 5 pitchers will cover about 1/3 - 1/2 of the years innings. Voth and Watkins are depth guys you hope you don’t need to use. Means might come back for two months. You need to acquire 2 pitchers to cover all the innings next year. No way around it.

Assumption being that $11M heralded as spending on a FA starter. I can’t see them spending $11M on a backup or 5th type. If they do, then I stand corrected.

If they bring him back then they are planning on going cheap. That’s only possible reason. They need better players to compete. He wAs a fantastic teammate and played for 2022 but not what the doctor ordered for 2023.

Good post. Thanks for putting all that together. I figured they might use Gunnar's MLB time as an excuse to add a second player to the POY like they did last year with Rutschman and Stowers. I think Westburg was definitely the #2 guy in the org last year from a performance standpoint. Pretty wild that Gunnar wasn't POY or co-POY. Regardless, congrats to Westburg - well deserved. By all accounts he is a super hard worker and will be an easy guy to pull for.
