  1. I wonder if they would cut some deal with Horseshoe as a cross-promotion? I have zero interest in gambling, but it does make me wonder.
  2. You could almost build a shelter that connects the Ravens and O's playing fields with that kind of money. Maybe that's the area where the gambling would take place!
  3. I have had MLB-TV on a month by month basis off and on since dumping DirecTV about four years ago (and thus losing MASN). I've mainly had it in Spring and can't bear to watch past May. Someone here recommended PIA VPN. It's been pretty reliable when I have streamed it on my Mac. I have the situation where everything we watch or stream is on my HDTV screen which is connected with a HDMI cable to my Mac Mini. Occasionally I have to refresh my Safari or Chrome browser to clear the cache and set the VPN site to The Bahamas, the West Coast or England so that I'm not in the O's viewing area. Durham NC where I live is in the O's viewing area, so we have always had the blackout. You CAN get this VPN on your iPhone or iPad, but it's not as reliable as on a Mac. I imagine they have a PC version, too.
  4. I used to see Metallica's guitar tech (a British guy) over near Chapel Hill NC where some guys race go-karts for fun. It's way out in the woods on a red clay home-made track. About half the people who race are either guitarists or recording engineers. I haven't been in awhile. I was not particularly good at go-kart racing. I got lapped a good bit!
  5. There used to be a good record shop at Fell's Point, but it's been a long time since I was in there. I live in NC, so I'm not always record shopping when I'm in town. I did find a great book on the band Big Star while in there once.
  6. So, so sorry to hear of this. Seeing this after reading the discussion of the new Athletic article (and reading that) in that the thread about Mancini's mid-season 2021 scare. Wishing him every good outcome possible for this development. Love to him and his loved ones as he works and fights through this.
  7. He will always have my undying admiration for managing to compete at the level he did this year after last year's surgery and six months of chemo treatment. To have missed all that time and to have dealt with the after effects (and the psychological strain) and to have a scare mid-season this year is almost too much to imagine. That's a lot to have on one's shoulders. Thanks for sharing. I just saw it in The Athletic this morning as well.
  8. Got to see Rutschman three times their last road trip here. Felt like a nice reward for living through this O's season The Sox in their post 2004 Papi years were just not likable at all. I still treasure the Goggles confrontation with him about daring to pitch him inside.
  9. I live in the town of their AAA team, Durham, so I've found ways to pull for them in post-season play. I see their prospects a lot (I go a LOT for the Norfolk road games here and pull for the Tides). There was a time when I'd pull for Boston when they had those classic playoff series vs. Yanks, but since those four World Series titles since '04, my friends who are Boston fans (and all the bandwagon jumpers) have become even more insufferable than the NY fans I know personally. Semi-related sidebar: being a Durham guy, the UNC fans locally are sort of the Red Sox Nation of NC, loud and entitled. Discounting the Cameron Crazies, the Duke grads I know are rather humble.
  10. Recent, but you have to add Stevie Wilkerson to that list. First position player to earn a save. Give it up for Dr. Poo Poo. And for this:
  11. The best we can hope for is no whiplash injuries as the ball goes sailing over our guys' heads.
  12. I've long thought they should go by The Foggy Bottom Boys. Some imaginative marketing could go with that.
  13. King-size Baltimore rat at 1:44 here. I laugh every time I see this scene.
  14. One of my long-lasting memories of Luke Scott was him limping around the bases on a home run trot.
  15. I loved the idea and am watching some clips today. Family had plans I could not get out of last night, but I got a lump in my throat for what I did see. Did any announcer use the phrase "can of corn" at any point?
  16. My exact question when I saw that and noting no one had made it clear. I really am not sure. Btw, what a weird day. Daniel Cabrera and Sidney Ponson are both titles of threads on the board here in July 2021
  17. I did like that when I saw it. I am a big fan of cameras that are not the usual CF behind the pitcher angle. So sick of that in real games. Even an occasional press box angle shot is nice. I have watched all of the '69 - '71 World Series YouTubes and the behind the catcher view is so refreshing. And they used it fairly regularly then. After almost 50 years, I'm really tired of the slightly off center CF cam looking into home plate. It's hardly ever lined up properly anyway and it's not as accurate in telling inside vs. outside pitches as one would think.
  18. I did write a tongue in cheek one a few years back called Take Me Out Of The Ballgame.
  19. If it's 50 to 75K per the original post, for about 26K to show up for Hawaiian t-shirt night (and then crawl back under a rock the next game) this year was a herculean feat. I think it's far more than that. There's probably a complicated MLB merchandising formula that is pretty good at estimating what the actual number is.
  20. I think an overhead shot of some sort would be an improvement than what they currently use. If it's hard to see the ball from that distance, they do have the computer generated lines to follow the path of the ball. I rarely watch the derby, but I did like the fast pace of it. I only vaguely remember the outs format as I never gave the derby much thought unless an Orioles was in it (or my hometown guy Josh Hamilton). I had to keep yelling at the kids to "hurry up, come back in the den, Trey is up!"
  21. If this doesn't move you, then it's reasonable to say that the undertaker should be summoned. Trey is indeed a warrior.
  22. Yes. I was wondering what it was that bothered me outside of the head bobbing. But not gonna let it dampen the show Trey put on. Seeing Trey outside of the usual game context, he looks much thinner in the face on TV tonight. The man has been through a ton and still was able to challenge him to the last round.
  23. I had the family huddled around the TV like it was The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Trey made Baltimore (and O's fans elsewhere) proud.
