Vlad: 'the Orioles have the inside track on signing him' Roch: Uh, no

I worry about 2 things with this

1 - Is Vlad done? He will be 36 in a few weeks, and really tailed off the second half of last year. 1st half OPS 0.919, 2nd half OPS 0.748. I know of no injury to account for the tailing off. 0.748, I am pretty confident that we can get that and more out of the Pie/Reimold combo. 0.919 we would not see from Pie/Reimold but I doubt we see that from Vlad either.

2 - I feel the chances of us competing this year are not great, 1 in 10, about. A good Vlad helps that a little, 5 for percent (2or 3 wins). If I am thinking more long term, I would rather find out if Pie/Reimold is going to do it for us in the future and develop them more this year. Vlad is a 1 year thing.

Not a signing I would make but it could end up being good for us depending on a few things.

That could be a scenario. Have Vlad start at DH, have Scott start in LF, have Pie be the 4th outfielder, and have Reimold play in AAA.

The only small problem with that is that Reimold is actually older then Nick Markakis. He isn't exactly a prospect anymore. It's going to get to the point where Reimold is 29-30 years old and we either have to put him on our team or cut him, because he will have little to no trade value left. That shouldn't be a reason to keep on a major league roster or to give him playing time, but it is just something to think about.

That's the only scenario in this I would be happy with. I don't care much about Reimold's age (yet...) It's not going to hurt him at all to have to go down to AAA (for maybe only a half a year) and REALLY tear it up. If he fails there again this year, he's not much anyway.

Sign him before the Angels do for a second time. Most of us have been wanting this to happen and it's good to hear we may be nearing a deal for him. AM this morning talked about getting a starting pitcher and a combination of Luke Scott and Tillman should help land a quality starter.

Is the part about trading Tillman and Scott your idea? If either are traded I will be highly disappointed.

Scott in LF with Pie as a defensive replace and Vlad at DH is better then Pie in LF and Scott DH.

Reimold shouldn't be handed anything, and after last year he has plenty to prove in AAA.

I am a supporter of this, if Vlad regresses then bring Reimold up.

I don't follow the O's very closely anymore, but why exactly WOULDN'T they make a low-risk move like this?

That is unless of course I've mistaken them for the Orioles.

I agree completely - don't understand why anyone would be against this. If you can then make a trade for a #2-3 starter with the spare parts, this team could contend for a wild card.

I like the deal a lot, regardless if we trade pie or Scott. Nothing wrong with having depth in aaa in reimold in the event vlad or Scott go down. Get him regular ABs while he waits for an injury. Scott and vlad could almost platoon a bit at DH to give vladdys knees a break.
