That was the first time I ever heard anayone say that. I think he must have meant to say "fewer" meaning fewer molecules per unit of volume (total molecules remaining the same). My favorite is when some announcers state that the higher humidity makes the air "heavier" (probably because it feels "heavier" because sweat isn't evaporating as quickly) instead of less dense because H20 molecules have less mass than the N2 molecules they displace. Usually, soon after an announcer says that, someone hits a homerun :)

Having my undergraduate background in earth and atmospheric sciences, I almost did a "facepalm" at that.
