I think something that helps the O's is their businesslike approach to the Yanks and Boston. They work quick, don't make a spectacle, and make them play their game. Very rarely do our games go the 4 hrs the Yanks/sox games do

Does anyone else think that Machado could be a good last-ditch pitcher kinda like Chris Davis? Maybe even a converted reliever like Pedro Strop? He's got a cannon of an arm. If they could teach him to locate that over the plate, he could be a pitcher.

Note that I'm not saying that they should do that, just that I think it would be possible, and that he would be an effective Strop-esque pitcher.

Markakis was primarily scouted as a pitcher coming out of college, he could throw 96 but the orioles were one of the only teams that preferred his potential as a hitter. That's kind of crazy since markakis has been one of the better contact hitters in the game throughout his career. So, I'm pretty sure he would be a last ditch pitcher like chris davis before machado. I haven't really read or heard of machado pitching in highschool, but I wouldn't doubt he could do it with his cannon like arm. Another guy who could be a last ditch pitcher is adam jones, he pitched in high school

I remember this quote. It made me crack a smile in a "that's a nice sentiment" sort of way at the time, but right now I'm starting to believe it might not be too far from the truth. The players seem to believe it, at least.

Jones was looked at as a pitcher right? And I know Seattle drafted him as a SS.

Two big reasons for that... one, we don't walk, two, I think our pitchers are being conditioned to work quickly, and we're also picking up guys who work quickly. Hammel works at a fantastic pace. Miguel Gonzalez and Chris Tillman move fast and challenge batters. Wei-Yin Chen seems to work a bit more methodically.

The good news is the Orioles don't care if Granderson is out, just play the game, don't count on anything until you record 27 outs.

Going way back though, I'm sure you guys know that Cal was a good pitcher in high school. Think Ernie Tyler's son ended up getting a hit off of him in a Maryland high school baseball playoff game that was really important if I remember my old media guides right.
