I would end the starter experiment. Plug him into a set up role and see if he can rebuild value and net Houston a prospect at the deadline.

After a very good start to the season out of the bullpen, Bedard has really struggled as a starter.

I know how Bedard is perceived off the field and as a person, but it always disappoints me a bit when he struggles.

So many incredible starts and nights for the Orioles that it is difficult for me to turn against him. He was probably my favorite Oriole back in 2007.

I still hold out hope that he will stabilize his career, but his ineffectiveness as a starter is really incredible. Haven't been paying that close attention to his career so, I have no idea if he is having his usual injury trouble or has just simply lost his effectiveness.

Last ML stop is Houston. My fear is that a team like the Yankees will get Bedard on the cheap and turn him into a quality setup guy, which is what he should be at this stage of his career.

No kidding. I've always felt a little bad for Erik. I liked him a lot, thought he had nasty stuff. I also loved his attitude with the media. If he dons the pinstripes, he's dead to me.

I thought I read an interview with him from years ago where he said he would probably not be willing to play for New York because of the way the behavior of the media. Could be wrong because it has been awhile, but I'd imagine even the Yanks would have to be hesitant to bring him in just because of his attitude though.

I'm with you though. I always thought his attitude with the media was playful and sarcastic. Journalists just don't like being told their questions are stupid or ignored when they are trying to hype something up, good or bad. Not that he hasn't had his moments because I've heard things here and there, but, in general, I found him funny.

On 3 days' rest, Bedard comes out of the bullpen in long relief.

3 shutout innings, then a solo home run by Omar Infante to start his 4th inning. He struck out Austin Jackson before departing after 3.33 innings pitched.

He gave up 1 run through 5 complete innings, then came out for the 6th, and gave up a lead-off single. His replacement (Philip Humber) gave a home run, allowing Bedard's runner to score from first base.

He gave up 1 walk, hit 1 batter, and had 7 strikeouts out of the 15 outs that he recorded.
