Wow that's a lot. He definitely earned it this year but 5 years from now??

But of course, Brian Sabean is the master of winning championships in the midst of bad contracts. I guess with Zito and Aubrey Huff finally coming off the books this winter, he needed another dangerous contract to feel safe at night.

Not really.

Pence has hit over 20 homeruns 6 times. He has had over 80 RBI's 5 times and he has OPS over 800 6 times. Pence is better and more consistent.

You should count again. He's OPS'd over .800 4 times. Nick has 5 season over .800.

Pence career .814 OPS, Nick .801.

They basically have the same career WAR. Nick is 8 months younger. Nick is finishing up a big contract. Pence is about to begin one in his age 31 season. He'll be paid $18M per until he's 35.

Hard to reason with folks who quote RBI totals like they mean something.

Nick has also followed the Ben Grieve guide to career regression.
