Since Birdland isn't here, I'll do some tweetage:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Orioles?src=hash">#Orioles</a> are more willing to allow Dan Duquette to go to Tor than they ever have been, but compensation is an issue <a href="http://t.co/CQ3csLDh0l">http://t.co/CQ3csLDh0l</a></p>— Dan Connolly (@danconnollysun) <a href="

Hoffman, whose draft stock dropped slightly last year due to Tommy John elbow surgery in May, would have to be a player to be named later in any deal because no one can be traded within the first calendar year of being drafted.

Regardless, the the Orioles would likely want more than just Hoffman, and that price tag might be more exorbitant than what the Blue Jays are willing to pay.

More than Hoffman.

Sounds like Hoffman has already been agreed to and the Orioles are looking for more? Unless I'm totally misinterpreting. That blows me away. Hoffman is enough for me to pull the trigger right now, but that's just me.

More than Hoffman.

I may be asking the obvious but.. why hasn't Toronto just decided to go look for someone else? They should see A) the trouble this has caused and B) the substantial compensation it will require and decide to move on to another baseball mind.

I don't think they're agreeing to Hoffman yet.

Catcher Max Pentecost 11th overall on Thursday, making the most of the Blue Jays’ two high draft picks.

“When you’re picking this high you just have to take the best talent,” said Blue Jays scouting director Brian Parker. “I think we’re comfortable with where we are and what we’re going to do going forward.

“These two picks, we lined up our board and we took the best two players.”

I like catchers.

Because it is not Toronto, it is Ed Rogers, and he has a plan. For Dan.

Dan Duquette has urged the Orioles ownership to allow him to pursue the Toronto job.

Well obviously Peter Angelos didn't leak that so it must have been DD. It is really easy to understand why DD was out of baseball for 10 years now. If Toronto does give up decent prospects for DD, I would just demote him to the ticket booth.

I'm guessing that they might be OK with giving Hoffman + but their issue is with who exactly that "+" is. They've agreed to sell the porsche they just don't want to give up the fancy floor mats.

That's just astonishing to me. DD was good, but I would not give up substantial compensation when I could get another good baseball mind (I don't know who specifically) for "free."

Well considering they had to go to the Yankees just to come up with DD's name, I don't think they know who else either.
