Man...those were some horrible highlights from Kirby. Seemed like he didn't have good control and everything hit off of him was a bullet!

Can someone explain to me why we basically gave away our competitive balance pick?

We got back a very nice catcher and Darren O'Day's replacement. Which is more than you would expect from a COMPB selection.

The same guy they could have signed as a MiL free agent?

It was about the money.

And Givens is O'Day's replacement.

Exactly. I think the trade would have been quite even without the 2nd round pick just thrown in. The allotment for that pick is around 500 or 600k?

I know you know this.

It isn't just about the pick, it is about the pick and the pool money.

It's not that much money. The 5% will cover that and more

5 percent, they are taxed 75 percent on the amount they went over. No other penalty.

Actually, we could not have signed Rowen. We tried. He picked the Dodgers. He was simply available as a FA because of an injury issue. Like O'Day was.

Great hitter in workouts and batting practice. lol

I remember watching him on video at Aberdeen and I thought he looked like a future star.

High School power isn't that easy to project, particularly when they are up north and the season is shorter.

Of course we don't know how the interviews went, if anything would have sunk him that is what it would have been.

Predicting Gary Rasjich's 2015 draft as he goes back to what worked in the 2013 draft where he went HS heavy (1. Harvey 1A. Hart 2. Sisco 4. Heim 5. Seabrooke 6. Murphy

1. (25) Dakota Chalmers (Hunter Harveyesque build and repertoire) George HS RHP - (BA snippet - Chalmers has a powerful right arm and can run his fastball up into the upper 90s. He more typically throws in the low to mid 90s now, but there's a lot of room for more strength gains in his 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame.)

Good snippets, RZNJ! The other week on an FG audio, McDaniel noted how recently Chalmers' FB was being squared up b/c he couldn't spin his CB. It was raining so he couldn't get his grip right. So, the batters sat FB. He said that Chalmers then started adding in his change. McDaniel then reported that this put him ahead of Harvey already. I found that interesting.
