I am working on a bigger piece to post about the pitching, but I started thinking really hard about this question. I have coded pitchers in red who I think have a 50+% of getting a QO and purple for less than 50%.

There will be quite a few front line starters available. There will also be quite a few middle of the rotation pitchers who won't cost draft picks.

I could conceivably see Chen accepting a $16M QO and entering a weaker market after 2016. Though with Boras as his agent, I could see him turning down the QO to go after a bigger contract, something similar to Ubaldo's contract, perhaps as a secondary signing to whomever signs one of the frontline starters and only has to give up their second pick. I also see a scenario where his market is dimished after declining the QO.

I'm going the naive route.

I'm banking on the notion that the Orioles like Chen, and Chen likes playing for the Orioles ...... hence, they will both find a way for him to stay here.

Of course, I still believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Whether gets a QO depends on the year he has. If he has a career ave. year he will get one and because Boras is his agent he will turn it, because he stands to make much more on the FA market. If he has less than a career average year it makes no sense to make a QO.

Bruce, maybe. Wei-Yin...less likely. But I hope you are right.

This could change depending on whether Bud gets on a roll. If he pitches from here forward anywhere close to 2014, he would likely get a QO and also likely decline.

I disagree. There is too much superior pitching on the market. Even if he does have a decent year. He would be stupid to decline.

If Boras was not his agent there would be zero chance I give Chen a QO as he might accept it. I feel odds are remote that Boras client is first to accept one.. Still dont see Orioles taking a chance.

Why not? A one year deal for a league average or slightly better left handed pitcher who is still relatively young?

Assuming he pitches to form I would have no problem at all with Chen back on a one year deal next year.

O's should have plenty of room for his salary.
