Orioles Prospects Christian Walker, Dariel Alvarez Waiting For Call Up

I think Alvarez has done a better job as of late working the count, but still needs some work there. Besides that, he would be a valuable piece IMO, just no room. I was impressed with his range in the OF (I had heard it wasn't good).

Walker=no way.

It wasn't the best decision to add Walker to the roster last year. Taking up a 40 man space and wasting an option year this year.

Yeah-hindsight is 20-20. He could have gotten hot and helped...but wasn't ready. Good point though. Not sure how long he will be around.

Eh this one isn't necessarily hindsight. The division was already well in hand and we had options for 1B for the remaining games of 2014. Thought it was a bad move then too. Just a minor move and it was before Parmalee was added to the 1B discussion of the future, but still skewed to the negative/pointless.

I guess I was hoping he would catch fire and his defense at 1B would help us, but hard to argue with you. He is just clogging a spot on the 40-man now.

Not sure, I agree about this. How the 40 man roster handcuff DD in anyway? He seams to be able to manipulate the 40 man roster at well.

If he wasn't on the 40 man roster, would he had been eligible to got plucked away on Rule 5 draft?

No he wasn't eligible for the rule 5 draft. DD can manipulate the 40 man well but why make it more difficult on yourself? The Orioles lucked out that Davis was still suspended over the winter.

Bringing him up last year helps and hurts. "Hurts" is the loss of control for a year. "Helps" might be that it increases his perceived value in the trade market. Tha is, if the O's (who know him best) think he was nearly MLB ready, then othe teams might rank him higher than if he was never even considered for a call-up. Not that we would get much for him, but he might be an add-in on some other trade.

Thanks.

Still, kinda of normal to spoonfeed your top prospects by letting their dip their feet into the pool and get their first taste of ML regular season games.

They did it with Schoop in 2013 and he got 5 games in and then had a good ST and found himself with the 2nd base starting job. I think most thought he would go back to AAA and get a promotion in mid season.

Yeah but there was a clear opening for Schoop and it was known in September. There was little chance of Walker making the OD roster without injuries to like 3 guys.

And it might be semantics but Walker isn't a top prospect and was only "rewarded" because of the Davis suspension. Which implies they didn't plan to call him up for a reward in the first place.

I know there was talk in OH, prior to the Davis suspension, hoping Walker would get a callup.

Walker simply filled Davis' slot this offseason and Garcia is still on our 40 man. That does not seem to have been an issue.

    • I'm a big fan.  It doesn't mean I have sources in the clubhouse. Do we have any idea who her sources are?  Does she have any kind of track record of having reliable sources?
    • I don't know who this woman is and I don't do Twitter. And this is what I touched on in the other thread: I don't know what the best path forward is b/c I don't know exactly what the problem is. I don't think Hyde needs to go, but if this is true- and I have no idea if it is or not- he should be gone. The talk of veteran leaders brings questions.  What was insufficient of the leadership of Satandaner, Mullins, Burnes, and Kimbrel?
    • Sig for me is notably rigorous trying to combat this.    I feel pretty sure he had a say in crafting his very geeky title, a reflection of his personal brand. We'll see how it goes here if it becomes recommending Adam Frazier and Kyle Gibson as correct for the roster once again.
    • Again, I'm not sure what the point of contention is. They won 91 games and lost in the Wildcard round.  That puts them smack in the middle of what I forecast as their most likely outcome, though I did hope for more playoff success.  I'm not sure how that is proof I misevaluated anything. Further, again, lecturing me about the importance of depth, when I'm one of the biggest hoarders on this board, and you're one of the biggest opposite of that, is ironic to say the least.
    • Aaron Judge whined about it so I’m a fan.  The older I get, the more I think people just exist to look for confirmation biases. In all avenues of life. Paul Simon wrote “a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.” I’m sure if we beat the Royals and advanced and Walltimore robbed three or four homers from the Royals, we’d be extolling its virtues and how great it is.    But that didn’t happen. If anything, there were a couple instances where, if anything, it worked against us.    So here we are.
    • I mean I wouldn’t be concerned about her opinions on which FA to sign or which players are best. But, she’s definitely a big fan and is just passing off info given to her. If it didn’t track into some other things that make sense, I wouldn’t pay it much mind. Of course, someone with an agenda could’ve just told her those things to spread rumors. Maybe Rick Dempsey haha.
    • Do you think any team is too stupid to account for home park dimensions when evaluating pitchers?
