No-Hitter/Perfect Game Watch Thread

The Nats announcers are upset but I think they are dead wrong in their complaints about "not getting out of the way" in a 6-0 nothing game. These guys are still competing and there's a pride factor.

Edit:

In case they got the consolation prize of a no hitter, which is not too shabby.

I don't know much about the deeper rules of baseball, but is there a rule about when a batter leans into a ball that wouldn't have hit him if he hadn't moved? I think it's pretty weak that the perfect game is lost because of a pitch like that which usually would never hit the batter because it's just a sort of normal inside pitch.

He did drop his elbow into it though, no?

He didn't make that much of an attempt to get out of the way but he did try and pull a way a little at the last second. In any case that rule is almost never called.

    • What kind of meltdown are you going to have if/when we're 60 games into the season and Frazier's hitting .205 and doesn't appear to be going anywhere?
    • At the risk of poking the bear, are you not a believer in sabermetrics? Because I guarantee you that Sig Medal and the analysts that work for him are most definitely looking at things like Stuff+ when evaluating pitchers.
    • Good summary of what his spring was like and I agree. My only concern, is that was not who he was pre oblique injury. He did all of those things so what has changed? Why has his command been so far off since then?  Nobody wants to say it, but you know I will, but it was disappointing to see him regress so much and fail in his first real chance at the big leagues. He basically pitched his was off the team. Heck, a bad outing or two would not have hurt him, but to have a lack of command and feel of his breaking pitches still is something that's disappointing to all. I'm sure he's frustrated too. While the fastball velocity was special, and the change could still be very good, he reminded my of early career Kevin Gausman.  Rodriguez has all the talent needed to be a very good major league starter for a long time, but it may take a bit longer than any of us had hoped and until I see that stuff, composure, and command come back to pre oblique injury, I'll have a little concern. It should come back. Why it's still a struggle after a normal offseason and spring is beyond anyone right now. We just have to hope it will return and he will settle back into a groove in AAA and be here by May or late April. Either way, for a guy who looked more than ready last May, this was an extremely disappointing spring.
    • I’ve seen speculation that it could be a draft day deal.    also, allegedly…A Rapper called Kraft to tell him that Lamar wants to be a Patriot. Rapper was told by Kraft that Bill B makes those decisions
    • Its all about winning.  If Frazier struggles and the team wins it gives Frazier more time.  But if Frazier struggle and the team is not keep pace in the division then Frazier's time will be shorter. Of course if Frazier plays well there is no need for a change.
    • It makes sense if Almeyda skips the DSL entirely. He was really only a int’l FA to take advantage of the system. Maybe part of why he signed with us is that we promised him he would play in the states. We’ll see…
    • To me its far more likely the "he wants out" is a ploy to get a contract. Its the way of the league nowadays to demand a trade (Deebo) or wipe your IG of the team. The ravens offer him the contract he wants he signs immediately. Hes a valuable asset and they shouldnt flinch.
