Just can't win enough one run games

The 2015 Orioles are faulty in more than one way, but one thing they did poorly before the All-Star break has continued after the break, and that is failure to consistently win one run games (they have their problems in two run games, also, their win the other day notwithstanding.) I happen to still have the game on in the eighth-inning last night, and I was both excited by, and worried by, the great comeback led by Jones and Davis. Excited because who wouldn't be by a pair of home runs by our big hitters, and worried because this team just can't be depended on to win close games. In 2012, that comeback would've meant been almost guaranteed eventual victory, either in the ninth-inning or in extras, but this season such a comeback, unless it resulted in a lead, is too likely to end up in a deflating defeat. Just on this trip, it happened in Anaheim (assisted by Buck's brain cramp and Brian's lack of control), and now last night.

Isn't it ironic that some people are bothered by Jim Hunter's and Gary Thorne's use of the phrase "two game winning streak," but now we wish we could hear it again, because the team has not managed such a streak in the month of August?

That's not how you get to the playoffs.

SEPTEMBER 18th)

Last night's win improved the Orioles' record in 1-run games to 21-24 overall.

Enough would be going 28-17.

79-67.

That would be great.

It is the difference between the Orioles' current mediocre record, and a record of which the team had an excellent chance of making the postseason. :(
