Travelling after a Night Game to play the next day

Today is the second time this month that the Orioles had to travel after a night game to play somewhere at least a time zone away the next night.

We had a night game last Wednesday in Boston, and had to fly to Texas for the first game of that series Thursday. And didn't play very well. I believe Hunter said they got into Texas around 5 or 6 AM.

So I wondered how common this is. I checked the AL East Schedules and I find that we do this four times this year, and the other four AL East teams do it a total of three times combined:

TRAVELLING TO A DIFFERENT TIME ZONE AFTER A NIGHT GAME TO PLAY THE NEXT NIGHT:

Baltimore

4/14 @Texas following a night game in Boston 4/13 (LOST)

4/22 @KC following a night game vs Toronto 4/21

5/27 @Cle following a night game @Hou 5/26

8/5 @White Sox following a night game vs Toronto 8/4

Boston

Never has to do this

New York

5/19 @Oakland after a night game @Arizona 5/18

7/7 @Cleveland after a night game @White Sox 7/6

Tampa

Never has to do this

Toronto

5/19 @Minnesota after a night game @Tampa 5/18

It's almost a sacrilege scheduling day games during the week anymore.

I think there have been more day games the last few years than there have been in the recent past. There were 7 matinees yesterday (if I counted correctly). Quite a few of them had good attendance. For instance, the Giants drew over 41,000 for their game against Arizona. Some other games didn't fare so well. 11,525 folks showed up to watch the Cleveland-Mariners game.

UPDATE:

The Orioles lost to the Rangers in Texas on April 14th (6-3.)

The Orioles lost to the Royals in Kansas City on April 22nd (4-2.)

The Orioles beat the Indians in Cleveland on May 27th (6-4.)

The Orioles have one of these games still to be played (the White Sox, in Chicago on August 5th.)
