It's not that we've been lied to, but the drugs and their use has evolved and probably if used correctly have less extreme side effects than the old days. Taken improperly aspirin will kill you: rash, gastrointestinal ulcerations, abdominal pain, upset stomach, heartburn, drowsiness, headache, cramping, nausea, gastritis, and bleeding.
