Bowie Baysox outfielder Julio Borbon has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 4th-July 10th. The 30-year old batted .533 (16-for-30) with one double, one triple, two home runs, four RBIs, five runs scored, one stolen base, two walks and a .833 slugging percentage in seven games for the Baysox last week. Borbon, who is a native of Starkville, Mississippi, had at least one hit in all seven games he played in last week and had multiple hits in six of those games, including three different three hit performances. The 6'0", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.533), hits (16) and total bases (25) last week and tied for the lead in on-base percentage (.563). He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in OPS (1.396-2nd), triples (1-tied 2nd), slugging percentage (.833-3rd), home runs (2-tied 3rd) and extra-base hits (4-tied 4th). Julio, who is batting .286 in 79 games with the Baysox this season, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a minor league free agent on March 13, 2016. He was originally drafted by Texas with the 35th pick of the 2007 draft and also previously spent time with the Chicago Cubs organization, including playing in a combined 288 Major League games between the Rangers and the Cubs.
