QS: 9

Last 5 starts (29.2 IP): (2-3) 3.65 (1.32), 6HR

</b>

Gausman has been pitching better lately though his WHIP isn't getting any better and he's giving up too many home runs generally (21 in 20 starts) and lately. He has given up at least one home run in 9 of his last 11 starts. Of course, he's never faced the Giants before and is 0-8 on the road this season.

Madison Bumgarner

(10-7)

2.20 (1.00/.206)

181K / 40BB, 18HR

QS: 18

Bumgarner has an astounding 18 sub-4/6+ starts this season and is one of the few true aces in the game today. His April ERA (3.64) is his worst month and finished May (1.05) and July (1.75) with ERA's under two, but had a 2.34 in June and a 3.46 in two August starts. He has thrown four complete games and is averaging nearly seven innings a start. What's worse is as good as his numbers are, they are even better at home. Not much more to say about Bumgarner except he's really, really good. I think he is easily the best pitcher we've faced all year.

Bundy struggled and could not get through the sixth, but Cain didn't have it and gave up five runs and learned the hard way that you can't pitch in the middle of the plate to this team. The Giants made it interesting in the ninth as Brach continues to struggle which could put more work on Britton's shoulders going forward, but the Orioles hang on for the win. Now comes the harder part.

It's not hard to determine who the better pitcher is in this matchup. Bumgarner has been consistently good all season long for the Giants and though Gausman has been pitching well lately, it's probably not wise to pick against Bumgarner in his home park. Stranger things have happened though.

The Dodgers lost, so the Giants hold on to first place and Toronto's loss means the Orioles are now in first again by a half game as Houston continues to play well. They have won four in a row and Seattle lost to Oakland to snap their winning streak. The Tigers lost to Texas for their fifth loss in a row and the Yankees have won three in a row sitting 3.5 back of the WC. Not much has changed with the WC yet.

    • Well to be fair to Sears he had to face our offense, Irvin didn’t. But man I really like what Cole has done, I thought once Means and Bradish came back it would be a pretty easy decision, but Cole is doing his thing. Going to be interesting what they do, not sure they will put Means in the bullpen.  But adding Suarez, Perez and Wells to our bullpen and taking out Ramirez, Tate and ? should make it better.
    • It’s the MASN feed replay that shows this, but it’s not in any of the highlight clips.
    • Some people on here really tried to claim Sears was a really good pitcher and way better than Irvin.
    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
