The eternal question, Smoak or Matusz? Has been answered.

Between 2010-2016 Justin Smoak was worth a cumulative 1.5 WAR.    That's 1.5 TOTAL WAR over 7 seasons.

It seems very unlikely we would've stayed with him that long......just like Texas passed him off to Seattle and then he eventually left Seattle for Toronto.

Having said all that he is already worth 2.4 WAR so far this year alone.   Some guys finally figure it out at 30.   Not many....but maybe this dude is one of them.

Agreed. No way the O's would have hung on to Smoak that long, especially with the availability of other first-base talent.

Or it is one of those outlier years and next year he goes back to being Smoak.

Are you accusing him of just being smoak and mirrors?

not even sorry for that one.  :D

Only because of JTrea81's obsession did it ever become Matusz vs. Smoak.    There were six other guys drafted between the two of them, four of whom have had significantly better careers than Smoak to this point.

That said, it's always interesting when a heretofore mediocre player like Smoak suddenly finds his mojo at age 30.

And, dare I say it, in Toronto???  Bautista, Encarnacion, Smoak - they seem to have a knack for this.

Very interesting career paths for both.  Matusz looked like he was on his way to becoming at least a decent starter for a lot of years, and the wheels totally fell off.  Smoak was a journeyman until this year.  Will be interesting to see if he sustains or if it's a flash in the pan.

Who knows how well he is really playing? Difficult to see when

smoak gets in your eyes.

Jays just picked up "bad teammate" Miguel Montero.  Will be interesting to see what happens there.

Careful when you say his name!

If you do it 3 times while looking in a mirror and wearing a Mark Teixeira jersey you're going to bring JTrea back here.

I was gonna say... somewhere, someone with a Snoopy avatar is very happy.

Especially when he finds it in TOR with pal Joey.;)
