BTB :Britton's low trade value could hurt O's chances of dealing him

I don't think him being a setup man for a year and a third would hurt his value at all if he pitches at a high level.  He's a "proven closer".  If anything his willingness to assume the role his team needed him for would enhance his value.

I think there is a difference between pitching with a lead and coming into the game 2-3 runs down. Being used by the Dodgers to preserve a lead in the eight is much more high leverage than being behind.

I see all the talk from a couple of weeks ago of "If Britton can pitch well for a couple of weeks, he'll net us Chapman+" has died down. Cool, because unless Britton can help teams re-win the 2016 trophy, there's no way he gets anything remotely close to that. Now the narrative is that he's just "rusty"?  The fact is the Britton hasn't pitched 2 days in a row since coming back and he's still looked terrible. At a certain point the truth becomes evident, and what's become evident is that he's not an elite reliever. Not in 2017. Not when teams are trying to win a 2017 WS trophy

So, the O's are faced with an important question on whether to get what they can on a (probably) busted pitcher or keep him and face the real possibility of non-tendering him come the offseason.

Dude ...This is just blatantly untrue!

Since July 5th Britton has pitched 9 times. He has given up 0 runs in 6 of those appearances. In his July 7 appearance Tejada misplayed a hard grounder hit right at him that should have been made. The scorer in Milwaukee called it a hit and Zach was charged with 2 runs.

Yesterday he went into a low leverage game when the Orioles were down and gave up 3 singles (1 hard), and a BB.

Perhaps you can talk your buddies on the Dodgers boards to buy this spooge. And when the Dodgers dont add a guy like Zach/Brach it will cost them their chance at a WS

Cheers!

Britton's batting average on balls in play is .417 this season, according to Fangraphs.  So he's been more than a little unlucky.  He's still getting a lot of ground balls, and they have been finding the holes more often than they normally do.

But it may well be that other teams are hesitant to give up good prospects for Britton because of concerns about his durability and effectiveness.  The fact that he has not yet appeared in back to back games, and the fact that his command has not been as sharp as usual, have surely reduced his attractiveness to other teams.  If other teams are only offering Pat Neshek-type packages for Britton, then better to keep him, let him re-establish his value over the rest of the season, and trade him over the offseason or at next year's deadline.

I like dealing him to the Dbacks -

Zach Britton for Marcus Wilson, Jimmie Sherfy, and Gabriel Moya.

Dbacks need a consistent closer in a heated WC race. We'd get a RP (Sherfy) who is MLB ready, their best OF prospect with speed and some pop that hasn't reached it's ceiling and another arm who is putting up ridiculous #'s under the radar (Moya) - 14 K/9 and under 0.8 WHIP.

On paper it doesn't look like the DBacks are giving up much. They keep their top 5-6 prospects but we get a lot of value in return.

Moya was traded to the Twins today.

The supposed period where Britton was going to show he was worthy of a Chapman+ package

Per BB-Ref:

ERA 6.00

BAA .346

OPS .798

WHIP 2.000

At this point, it would seem the the Dodgers would have higher chances of winning the WS without Britton's bum arm    Look, this isn't about trolling O's fans for the sake of Dodger fans.  I would say a similar thing about Kershaw.  He is without a doubt going into the HOF but the reality is that though he was one of the best pitchers in the NL this year his performance was not quite on par with Kershaw 2011-1st 1/2 2016....and he's injured with back issues for the second time in 2 years.  He will be on the wrong side of 30 next year with ongoing back issues.

That's not happening. They'd trade him in the offseason if anything. He's not getting non tendered.

Britton will re-establish his value before next trade deadline, at which point I pray to god we flip him.

Look at Kimbrel last year.  He had a down year with a 3.40 ERA, and now is having one of his best seasons to date.

Great pitcher, but cancer took his arm.

Dave Dravecky's arm literally snapped in half while he was throwing a pitch while attempting a comeback in 1989.

The same thing happened to Tom Browning of the Reds in 1994 (not cancer, but his arm literally snapping like a broken stick while he was throwing a pitch.)
