I almost saw the most dubious Orioles’ “record” erased last night

I was at the game as well. If you're not feeling too good about your own team, you can always remember, at least your team isn't the Mets. Reyes giving up run after run was hard to watch but when the nats loaded the bases leading 25-1, I'm not going to lie, I was hoping they would get another hit then a grand slam to at least tie the 30 mark.

Rizzo sounds like he is constantly on roid rage. He said some stuff about the O's last year about we love beating their *&^* a$$es and other nonsense due to some rain delay deal where the nats cancelled a game against the O's when it didn't even rain and the next day when they played Rizzo just ran his mouth because the O's couldn't understand why the nats called off the game.

The beef stems from a rainout, on a night in which little to no rain actually fell.

After the Orioles dropped the makeup 6-1 on Thursday, Buck had some thoughts on the matter.

He quipped that the weather was "marginally better" than May 11, and vented his frustration about a lack of players available. Unlike May, the Orioles were without stars Adam Jones and Manny Machado, and they also lost their projected starter for that game, Dylan Bundy.

Bundy has been their No. 1 starter, and one of their few consistent pitchers this season.

Despite Buck's grumblings, Rizzo wasn't having any of it.

"They refused to play [May 12th], so the next [open] day was [Thursday]. They drove 32 miles to get there. We flew 3,000 [expletive] miles, and we beat their [behinds]. So quit your whining. Quit whining."

“We’re the two-time defending champs,” Rizzo said. “We’ve got the bull’s-eye on our back and the crown our head, and until someone takes it away from us, we’re still the champs.”

Really? Bulls eye and there is a crown for winning a watered down NL East back to back years? Still the champs? Didn't know they handed out trophies and crowns for winning division titles. Natitude indeed. Great job getting rid of two solid relievers, great job.

Rizzo 1

Rizzo 2

“You’re either in or you’re in the way and I thought he was in the way.”

Rizzo, you're getting in the way of your own team.

I was also at the 30-3 game.  That was one of the most memorable games I have ever attended.  The Rangers just hit everything hard.  I am a diehard O's fan but found myself rooting for history.  Still have the ticket stub.

One of the oddities of that game is that the Orioles used pitchers the whole game, no position guys.

Seems like Rizzo overreacted here perhaps.

As the article states, Kelley was having a good season.  A 3.34 ERA over 32 1/3 innings is pretty decent.  There may be something else that Rizzo wasn't thrilled with about Kelley and his  blow up on the mound gave Rizzo  the excuse he needed to get rid of him.

In certain ways, Tuesday’s game felt like a worse drubbing than the 30-3 game.     The Orioles actually had the lead for the first three innings, and the game actually was competitive for five innings, with the Rangers only ahead 5-3.    In the Nats game, they led 7-0 after one, and by the time the fifth inning ended it was 19-0.    So, the Nats game got out of hand much more quickly.    But, what a drubbing the O’s took those last four innings.   They only used four pitchers all game because it was the first game of a doubleheader so Trembley wanted to keep some guys available for Game 2 once Game 1 was out of hand.

On a somewhat similar subject ........

In June of 1985, the Philadelphia Phillies and  Von Hayes set a franchise record (1883 - Present) that still stands in a 26-7 rout of the New York Mets.

33 years later, the New York Mets set a franchise record (1962 - Present) by scoring 24 runs in a single game against ........ the Philadelphia Phillies.

So I guess we don’t need to feel so bad about the Mets scoring 16 on us last night.    What’s gotten into them?

Today was a good chance, as Philly went to Quinn and Kingery for 3 innings due to it being DH game 1.  I don't think it'd take a team trying that too many times after already letting in ~15 runs to get to the players pitching that the 7/8/9 line score includes a 10-run inning and a couple of 4's.

The Mets are the first National League team since the 1933 New York Giants to score 15 or more runs in consecutive games.

That World Series Championship team was led by Bill Terry and Mel Ott.

And the 1933 Giants' opponent in those back-to-back wins of score by 18-1 and 18-1 ??? The Philadelphia Phillies !!!

    • At cost considerations there is 2 players i'd rather have listed in that article over Crochet, Helsley leading that. Also Mountcastle to the Reds for a SP makes a lot of sense also.
    • Guilty. I'm working to be intentional to enjoy the day to day of a lot of exciting careers beginning, and not miss the moment as during say Peyton Manning's career in a different chapter of life when assured 14-2 or 13-3 seasons were four months of boredom while you waited to see what the playoff stumble would be this time.    SIGBOT's stuff works in the regular season same as Billy Beane's didn't in the playoffs. I don't follow Over/Unders, but would guess the 2025 Orioles are 1st or 2nd in the AL on early action.    My informal AL power rankings end of 2024: 1. A nonexistent Orioles team with a functional Adley Rutschman 2. Yankees with Soto 3. Tie between actual Orioles with broken Adley and end stage Astros that lost several series to hot Central teams 4. Yankees without Soto 5. Central I'm cheating Cleveland there for a joke, and hope they win, which they are plenty capable of doing.    It is an interesting matchup for the stuff the two teams are good at being very different.
    • I don't see the O's trading Mullins without getting a replacement for him from somewhere.  It's doubtful we have anyone in the minors yet ready to step in for him.  Maybe the same for Urias since he's the perfect backup infielder.  I think Mateo and Mountcastle are more likely to be traded.
    • I was clearly talking about the AL...
    • You mean like how the Os dealt guys like Hays, Stowers and Norby?  Yea, guys who are good depth but guys we can stand to trade are guys I want to trade….and obviously Elias feels similarly. These guys carry value. The level of value depends on the player and you can debate the value of return but yes, you absolutely should trade out of depth and trade guys that perhaps that don’t match your team philosophies.  That’s what teams do.
    • Who knows.  Lots of possibilities. There could be another trade like the Hays trade.  Or maybe you can get a ML ready arm that profiles as a high end reliever. I don’t think that you will get a proven lock down guy but that doesn’t mean you can’t get someone that will end up a big contributor.
