Chris Davis has not started since the 18th. Maybe he is over.

o

He may or may not be over, but tonight's starting lineup is not necessarily an indication of that.

The opposing starting pitcher is left-handed. Davis has 240 Plate Appearances against right-handed pitchers so far this season, and only 60 Plate Appearances against left-handed pitchers.

And a fair number of those 60 PA are probably against LH relief pitchers who entered the game after Davis was already in the lineup.   Davis has only started in 12 games where a LH starter was on the mound, compared to 61 against RHP.

Since being acquired from the Marlins, Trevor Richards was tagged for 8 Hits 2 Runs in only 3.33 Innings Pitched in his previous (and only) outing with the D-Rays this past Sunday ........ but he also had 6 Strikeouts and only 1 Walk in that same game.

Richards has pared it down to a decent Fastball (which he has thrown higher in the zone this season) and a great Change-up.

He had not used his Curveball or his Cutter in his last few games prior to the trade to the Rays, but the article asserts that that may have been a symptom of him having moved to the Marlins' bullpen ........ now that he is being used as a starter again, it will be interesting to see if he remains a 2-pitch pitcher or if he reacclimates the Curveball and the Cutter into his stockpile of pitches.

Previous to his most recent outing, John Means had had a 10.97 ERA and a 2.344 WHIP in only 10.67 Innings in 3 starts against the Diamondbacks and the Yankees (twice.)

He bounced back by pitching reasonably well against the Royals in a losing effort in his most recent outing 5 days ago.

That said, I believe that it should be noted that the Diamondbacks start on July 24th was the last one prior to him going on the IL with a minor injury, and the 2 Yankees games were his first 2 starts after coming off of said IL.

Curious lineup...the opener is a lefty and I THINK the bulk pitcher will be Brendan McKay, also a lefty.

So Hanser leading off makes sense.  But Davis and Ruiz typicly don't face lefties and they are in the lineup.

Day off for Trey?
