Streaming devices, Smart phones, texting.

My father is complaining about his sky high cable bill, he has a smart TV.  Is he willing to learn how to use it?  Nope.

My mother-in-law is so adverse to the Internet, that she pays more to have verizon double play, TV and Phone, with no internet, if she had just taken the triple play and not use the internet.

She turned off the modem, she didnt like the flashing lights, and she said, she no longer needed it, as she dropped the internet.

She then called and complained to Verizon that she lost her TV Guide and information from her TV set.

In talking with her, they asked her about the lights working on the modem? When she no, she said, wait, Im asking you to fix my tv, who cares about the GD internet, whats wrong with you?

Needless to say, she had to turn back on that device, and still thinks they are feeding her a line of BS.

My father is an engineer, Master's Degree, graduated from the Naval War college, was a chief engineer for a rather large technical organization.  About three times a year I have to go fix his computer, he finds it challenging to download/resize pictures from his camera, constantly rails against the gremlins in his cable modem, and he only watches Netflix on DVD.  I guess most of us get old and find new stuff difficult.

Like Corn I'm surprised about Maduro. Not sure of any players he's found but I thought he was a bright spot. An easy checkbox for Elias starting up a dead internationale effort.

Very surprised about Scotty McGregor! A lifetime Oriole and a great pitcher. Seems almost cold just to cut him loose!

McGregor is 65 years old.  How long should they keep him on staff just because he has a good pitcher in Baltimore?  What more do they owe him?  Granted, some experience is beneficial in training young people moving into these positions, but one way to change the trajectory of a ship is to move the rudder.

I'm certainly not happy for anyone that lost their job, but I am happy that it appears that Elias is in full control and has full authority over the baseball operations, as was promised.

That has not been the case in Baltimore for a looooong time.

Certainly he is in full control of the baseball operations of the Orioles. And I am very glad to see that and prove it to CoC. I do not think he is in charge of setting his own budget without review. He may require ownership approval to finally jettison CHris Davis.

Facebook is pretty much passé anyway.   So my kids tell me.   I never used it.   Look for me on social media and you’ll find no trace.

It's reasonably good as a newsfeed for your favorite obscure sports teams, web magazine-type pages, etc.  Makes it a little easier to follow 3rd-division German soccer, and keep tabs on when a new show or album is being released.  I don't post much besides the occasional picture of the kids or vacation.  I'll admit that I'm not completely immune to a tiny bit of bragging when I'm drinking a beer in Munich, or hanging out in Iceland.

If he needs approval to jettison Davis he isn't in full control.  That is a move that wouldn't cost the O's more than the league minimum.

I would suspect just about all the GMs in MLB, would have to ask ownership permission to jettison that amount of money on that contract.

I do not know why you think otherwise.

None of us is in full control.  Neither is Billy Beane or Brian Cashman or Dave Dombrowski.  Connie Mack may have been the last baseball guy to have full control, and they don't let owners manage any more.

But I keep hearing that term being used with Elias and not with those other names.  No one is suggesting that Dombrowski had full control.

"Ages".

Come on, are you trying to troll us?

There is a new reghime in charge, and its not suprising that he wants to select "his" people through the system.

Not like this has never ever happen with any other GM change in MLB.

I cant say I wasn't shock, they finally had some success in the minors, but overall, the quality of prospect development over the years from this system hasnt been the best. Too many failures for my own like.

So maybe a total make-over is required.

I don't disagree that he has every right to hire whomever he wants but someone suggested they were fired because of their age.  I don't think that is true but if it were it is against to law to discriminate on employees because of their age if they are over 40.  It would be the same thing as suggesting that they were fired due to their race or gender.

    • I think there is a better term than "angry" to describe some of the O's. Anger seldom results in anything positive. Now, playing with attitude is another thing. GH is certainly the "King" of attitude on this team, no one is going to beat him. I believe there are several position players that show attitude in different ways. Pitchers?? SP throw 90 or so pitches. They can't afford to display emotions or they would be worn out much earlier. They also can't afford to have the "deer in the headlights" look. Of the O's starters, I believe CP is in that world at present. It's mainly an experience and growth thing.  GR, IMO, has approved significantly in that department over the last year.
    • On close examination of Kjerstad today (July 7), I hope he is not part of any trade package. This kid is a bull, with power potential that is off the charts.  He runs surprisingly well and that throw to the plate from left was very impressive, if a bit high. I can see him planted in left field for a long time, perhaps in a platoon with Hays the rest of the year, but eventually full time if he proves able to hit southpaws.
    • I like this idea better, but I am curious to what it would take to secure Mason Miller.
    • I totally get it.  It’s a huge risk vs. reward situation, but getting someone like him (if he’s still strong) or Skubal could make a major difference come October for you guys over the next three seasons.
    • IMHO it's not about whether Crochet is an "opener" or a reliever, it's the innings.  He's never thrown more than 65 innings (at college in 2019) in his entire college or pro career and stands at 105.1 today.  Let that sink in.  On top of that, there is Crochet's TJ surgery, where he missed all of 2022 and had multiple stints on the IL in 2023 as he was recovering, tossing a total of 25 IP. Does any of this mean he cannot throw double (130 IP) or triple (195 IP) his prior max?  No one can say for certain, but I'd think any reasonable person would agree that, at the very least, it's a far riskier proposition for someone like Crochet than a pitcher who has been a starter and has thrown 150+ IP before.  So, to recap: The most innings he's ever thrown was 65 IP in college (2019) After throwing 54 innings of relief for the White Sox in 2021, he missed all of 2022 with Tommy John surgery He followed up in 2023 by throwing a total of 25 innings of relief, as he dealt with a couple of IL stints recovering from TJ His first ever pro start came this season and he's been dynamite through 105.1 IP Elias and Sig are well aware of the risks and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
    • Gunnar doing a good job of hitting the ball to all fields.
    • Tell me the cost and I would probably sign up. What about you Qauntrill, Scherzer and Yates and you got to keep all top 4 prospects?
