Woah, never heard of the shaving cream thing. Is that for real?

Yes it is real. Very old school. That's what we did in the 70's and 80's. I played against Traber in high school. He came across as a bully and I don't think he changed much by looking at that video. He was not a good guy back then. He is by far my least favorite Oriole player. Having said that, I am glad he got through his medical issues.

Heard similar stuff second hand bout him.   Changing school district lines meant that some people who went to WLMS with him wound up at CHS where I went instead of WLHS, and those I knew didn't have much positive to say about middle school Jim Traber.

You can take that 40 year old gossip for whatever it is worth!

I would not judge an adult based on what they were like in middle school.   There are a lot of jerks at that age who mature into reasonable people.

Re: the breaking in of a glove with shaving cream. I’ve definitely heard of it. I’ve read in more than one place that Brooks did it and so did Ozzie Smith.

Brooks:

http://www.danielleflood.com/id36.html

“Yankee pitcher Ron Davis uses shaving cream on his, any kind he can find in the clubhouse. He just sprays the foam on, and lets it soak in, then repeats the process every now and then.

"It makes the leather darker, softer, smooooth," he says as he runs his fingers over his glove.Where did he ever get such an idea? "I saw Brooks Robinson do it."

Ozzie (and a tidbit about Brooks that I *didn’t* know)

https://www.si.com/vault/2003/03/17/339796/for-love-of-leather-finally-the-baseball-glove-gets-the-recognition-it-deserves

Brooks Robinson kept his glove fingers firm with tongue
depressors; Ozzie Smith broke his in with shaving cream.”

This is the late George Scott, chasing down Dennis Martinez before being intercepted by Doug DeCinces in 1977.

Never saw that. I will say, if George Scott came running after me like that I'd be hauling ass like Martinez did as well. :D

From the little bit that I know about you Tony, I don't think that you would run away from a charging Larry Holmes in his prime ........ it just doesn't seem to be in your DNA/makeup.
