Elias needs to move more quickly than that.  I don't see how he can go five seasons in charge without being competitive for a playoff spot.

Frankly he shouldn't.

I agree with you... But picking up guys mostly at A level says 3+ Years to me. Honestly I think the pitching is pretty strong in the minors. I still think they are lacking at positional talent. Especially up the middle.

That is not the point the poster was making. He said it was a simple solution. I said it cost 1.7.  The were never letting him play another game as an Oriole. In Spring or otherwise.

Yep and had they invested 1.7 million to get to spring training I don’t see how they would’ve cut him at that point.

I've previously stated I think he's not as aggressive with minor league promotions as I would like.

I think Elias would agree that if he's not competing for a playoff spot in the fifth year, then it's not working. I understand things moving a bit slower the first year. Last year at this time, he was still trying to hire a manager and didn't have any of his infrastructure built yet. But I think he's trying to get moves made now and I'm encouraged by where things are so far.

With promotions, I think there was a lot of change on the pitching side. Guys were encouraged to throw off speed pitches in fastball counts. I generally agree with the idea that that should happen in milb rather than the majors. And I clearly recall your stance on Mountcastle so no need to rehash that.

I agree about the MiL guys. I don't see how they can be remotely competitive in 4-5 years when we consider the lack of help in the lower levels.

It will come down to the MiL pitching. Maybe if some of them are actual pieces they could supplement the position player side.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
