Fangraphs’ Gawlowski: Abolish the Draft?

Personally I think he’s out of his mind if he doesn’t think the draft helps competitive balance.

It was hard for me to take this article seriously when the headline was referred to  “corollary damage.”  At least the article used the correct term collateral damage. I assume this guy is a MFY free marketer because he wants rich teams to be able to do what they already do with free agents, simply outspend the O’s of the world.

He does address that right at the end.

That’s perhaps the only problem I see with his proposal, but it’s a huge one.

Fangraphs lost it's way a bit in the past few years. Discussing the draft as an "immoral" enterprise is about as far from data-driven analysis as one can get.

Not everything they do is analytical.   Most of it is.
